The Cunha incident 16:29 - Dec 22 with 5773 views | Zx1988 | As mentioned on Kings of Anglia, if you do that on any street, it's assault. Similarly, with it having happened after the final whistle, and between a player and a staff member, there's not a hope in hell that the 'sporting contact/incident' defence would stand up in court. Is there any particular reason why (it would appear) a complaint hasn't been made to the police? The police got involved between Joey Barton and the Barnsley manager the other year, so it's possible. Is it just a case that it's not considered the done thing?

That's a new one for me. Never realised that it was 'tinpot' for a victim of violent crime to make a report to the police...

It was handbags, a little scuffle. The 'victim' clearly didn't think it warranted being reported.

It is a bit ridiculous, just let the FA deal with it. If you're going to report that, you might as well report every foul that happens because if you slide tackled someone in the street it would be assault.

You're comparing apples and oranges there. The incident wasn't in match, and was against a non-playing member of staff who has a right to a safe work environment. I don't disagree that it's best dealt with by the FA, but the victim should be also able to exercise his right to not be assaulted without any pressure or consideration of how "tinpot" it might appear to anyone else. FWIW I know someone who drunkenly did something similar to Cunha in a scuffle in a bar - a night in a cell and £80 fine.

Cunha took the guy's specs off, which if you're very short-sighted is a) very scary and b) potentially very expensive if they're top quality varifocals & frame - my latest pair were £600.

That is the point - has the victim made a complaint to the police? If he doesn’t it won’t be investigated. [Post edited 22 Dec 2024 18:09]

I think it's tinpot (and I don't love that phrase) if we want to pursue the incident as a club and do it with the intention of weakening a relegation rival, which is how it would come across. If the person assaulted individually wants to press charges then presumably he'd have a case, and you wouldn't blame him at all. Best not done publicly in any case.

It was an utterly bellendish thing to do, but I would hope the Police have better things to do (although possibly not - they're could be off targeting protestors again!).

Normalising that behaviour as "just a bit of rough and tumble not warranting the police" is just an awful message.

You think normalising unprovoked forearms in the back of people's heads is okay? Because the difference between a scuffle and a serious injury or worse when you do that, is luck.

The Cunha incident on 19:34 - Dec 22 with 3048 views | BrockleyBlue78 | It’s very silly and unprofessional for Cunha to be playing today. The league should have already taken action, ITFC shouldn’t have to do a thing. To add extra salt, we play yesterday without Delap, yet Cunha plays today. Getting tired of how the PL is being managed. [Post edited 22 Dec 2024 19:45]

I don't understand how he plays when he had till 19th December to respond to charges, yet there's been no hearing (and it's 22nd now). Meanwhile Delap...

I do believe that 'pressing charges' is not a thing in this country, that's an American thing.
