Has the talent. I dont think our play suits him. But that I'm sure KM will work on.

But off the ball. He's gotta get tougher. That attempt at a header. Fine you may not win it. But get your body in there. Put the headerer off.

For town. We got to find a way of using clarke like Sunderland did. We've spent a lot of time trying to turn him into what we need but I dont think that is clarke. He's a grealish and needs to be on that byline.

I do worry if we lose broady. He doesn't need to be amazing when he plays but he gets the ball flowing when he comes on and creates pockets of space.

Tonight was a hard watch, we looked so much better with Broadhead and Chaplin. Szmodics like clarke just doesn't seem to be adapting to our play

I’m getting strong Lee Martin vibes lol. He was miles off it tonight.

Pre season he spent most of the time on the right wing and played great. Season starts and he is put back on the left. Not the best decision for the gaffer. Missed omari tonight.

He has the ability but the mental strength? Can't see it. Ali Al Hamidi has a fraction of JCs talent but at least puts a shift in.

I really hope there are some strong voices and opinions behind the scenes trying to convince Ashton not to let Broadhead go. I know it's good money and he's probably not worth £7m in the market, but arguably he's worth it to us because he's been there 'from the beginning' i.e when it all started clicking in Jan 2023.

Clarke and Philogene still have mountains to climb in terms of convincing us they can be the main men.

Not much choice with Philogene out (assuming Clarke always had the nod over Broady because of the uncertainty surrounding the latter). But it was a very underwhelming performance from Clarke.

We desperately need him to settle and get some confidence back.

Clarke absolutely miles off it, him and Jaden both worry me to be honest. They have talent but not convinced they care anywhere near as much as the ones before them, broady, Wes etc.. Clarke has to get tougher he’s a seriously soft touch and isn’t the sort of player you want in a game like tonight’s. I’m sure at home to teams like Charlton he’ll be fine.

After watching humpreys pop some great balls into the box. Stick him on the flank.

I can't get away from the feeling that the 10 position does not suit Szmodics at all. When it's Chaplin or Omari it works because they have the natural angle coming over to the right side and getting involved in guild up play. They're naturally technical players who will play one-twos all day. Szmodics isn't that at all, you want him in the box and not anywhere else.

Granted I can see him and Hirst linking up nicely at times, but I'm just not sure overall.

Looks miles off it for us, it’s a tough watch.

Would seriously look to move him on, sometimes things don’t work out, and he’s not the right fit for us and the way we play, and we are not the right fit for him.

Problem is. We saw it working quite well with the half chance from hirst flick on etc.

The issue is. We require our 10 to be the ball provider where as at least as far as I'm aware at Blackburn his rike was more about being in the box to get onto balls.

Szmodics is more a support striker, whereas the other players we've used in that position are more link players who use the ball really well.

In a game like tonight we needed the latter.

I don't know if im being over critical and need more matches to watch him but between tonight and the last friendly where he was basically anonymous a key role where hutch or Chaplin link play together seems to fail a lot with szmodics. Need to remember he has also had prolonged time out of the game, ogbene gets a pass for a similar reason and must be noted I can't remember him doing a single thing tonight of note

He’s not what we need… If we sell Broadhead - we’re massively weakened in that side. Broadhead should be the nailed on left wing - way, way, way above Clarke. A massive liability to our promotion hopes.

I've said it for a while, he is a second striker who is good at tracking back. I don't think he has the technical trickery and intricacy to be the 10. Broadhead is the same really. They are guys who like to be fed, not guys who feed. We missed the link from defence/midfield to striker until Chaplin came on .

Yes you may have a point there. But why not keep Clarke playing right wing where he was effective and try ogbene on the left. He was great pre season. But always fair play to Brum they stopped our game plan.

Not hugely impressed with Clarke since he signed, I know he's not always playing in his favoured position but there has been little end product of note, the occasional glimpse of skill but too often he looks a bit lost and his post possession reaction is poor it's like he has a split second mental sulk before he realises he needs to win possession back, contrast that with Matusiwa's reaction to losing the ball - instant desire to get it back.

I just don't think we will see the best of Clarke while ge is on the left with Leif. Clarke's best performance was when he was playing over there with Townsend.

I, just once, would like to see him played in the role he had at Sunderland, Hugging the touchline and cutting in.

Feel sorry for him. Just looks lost most of the time.

Yup, losing Davis is the worst thing for town but possibly the best thing if it happened for clarke

On another night SS scores a couple.

He’ll be absolutely fine in the 10. Don’t write him off based on tonight
