Goodbye to Broady the Gamechanger 16:43 - Aug 14 with 1755 viewsjasondozzell

Maybe the free kick against Wednesday is the most important goal in the last 20 plus years of the club?

Broady always somehow looked like a Year 10 lad who'd forgotten to do his homework but what a magic magic player.

Those quick feet.

Saw things that others didn't.

Played with expression.

A proper footballer.

Loved him.

That free kick, the Port Vale goal, the Southampton equaliser, loads.

Always so enthusiastic, and should have played far more last year.

Wish him nothing but the best.

That and the miss a few minutes earlier that would have made it 0-3.

Completely forgot he got both goals against Port Vale.

That’s still the tensest I’ve been in living memory at a town game.

And the away goal at Barnsley that no one actually realised at the time had gone in.

He is proper magic. My greatest regret is he didn't finish off that move against Norwich where he jinked past several players.

Highest pressure penalty there's ever been in football.

They'd all laugh at me if they knew what I was trying to do. To create a new strain of super-wine in half-an-hour with a fraction of nature's resources and a FOOL for an assistant. 'Bernard Black, he's mad,' they'd say, 'he's insane, he's dangerous.' Well I'll show them! I'll show them all!

Loved the little skip away at Derby before he pinged it to Wes for the knock down to Chappers.

That's the one. The first player from that 4-man move to leave.

Great player. His goal scoring record much better than the loan coming in.

No surprise he is going and a great deal for the club - but think this makes us weaker.

Hard to say, certainly a bit of a gamble though when players like Morsy and Broadhead go. We know what they can do, we only think we know what the replacements can do.

Two for me.

1. That goal against Sunderland, first game back in the Championship. We played appallingly in that first half, we looked nervous, couldn't hold the ball, Sunderland cutting threw us. But typical Broady, sees a half chance, ok I think it hits his knee, but he saw chances others didn't.

2. The 2nd goal against Southampton in that famous 3-2 win. Yes everyone will remember the winner, but Southampton were completely on top in that 2nd half. Ball played to Broady, he has his back to goal, everyone, especially the Southampton players, is expecting him to play it back to (I think) Morsy but without warning he turns and shots. Which catches the Southampton defence and GK cold, and we equalise which changes the game completely. Broady was the only Town player who had the vision to do that.

First player in a while I'm genuinely sad to see go, though I do understand it's a great deal all round.

That scoop pass against Charlton was magic. We did hospitality for Port Vale a few days later for my parents 40th wedding anniversary, and he was man of the match.

Told him the pass was 'chef's kiss' and he chuckled and said 'ah, you liked that one then did you' in his soft spoken welsh.

So long Broady, as I've said to many people before, you were 'different gravy'.

Big moments these for KM I think. Brave man to be dismantling a good team. But the best managers have confidence in tier convictions and know when to shuffle things up. KM is certainly doing that and for us it’s uncomfortable, but we can do no more than trust the man that masterminded the renaissance of our wonderful club.

So many magic moments. The Sheffield Wednesday free kick that arguably saved our season. The goal against Barnsley that no-one else realised had gone in. That night against Port Vale.

My personal favourite: the outside of the foot cross against Exeter for Hirst to make it 3-0, and effectively seal promotion.

This is part of the problem for Clarke and Philogene - they may have higher ceilings, but no-one loves them yet because they haven't given us any moments to remember. Yet.

Probably one of my favourite players I've seen for us, always found space and made something happen. The sort of player that would have gone right to the top if born 10-15 years earlier I think, before elite physicality was required to compete at the highest level.

Broadhead’s replacement is already in the building and has been for a year. Not done anything in that time mind you but played plenty of games already.

He was to AMs what Jim was to CMs. You don’t get that many cultured players around these days at this level. Arguably he was the best in that role at the club.

Yeah. KM has more footballing knowledge in his little toe than the entire forum but the only time ever I've really questioned him was Saints at home last year.

He took Broady off earlyish (just looked it up - 64 minutes) and we lost all the pressure we had on them. Yes he missed a couple of chances but he was our best player that day and playing well. Couldn't understand why he subbed him. Felt like all the threat and energy just went with him.

Clearly something went on there over the last year. KM seemed to have a blind spot when it came to Broady. Although he always spoke well of him. Broady's mum's post about him being fit when he wasn't getting near revealing.

I really think we'd have won that game had Broady stayed on.
