Proper atmosphere. Interesting to contrast the jubilant fans in the ground and bars, and the Scots online absolutely laying into Clarke.

I guess they just have to keep the score down in their next two matches and pray their GD gets them 8th best placed 3rd place team. Farcicle really.

I think anyone with any perspective would say that's a significant achievement. Sure they probably should be knocking a few in but it's a good result on the world stage.

Scotland would have to be pretty desperate to put Hurst on. They've got better options.

Not sure, it may sound ridiculous but Brazil looked very laboured. They just have individuals with something very special. If the Scots play maybe as a 5 at the back and keep the wingers shut down, I can see them causing problems and getting something from it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Because Clarke has his favourites and Dykes is one of them. As is Grant Hanley who should be nowhere near getting a start.

Agree with this, Brasil looked poor for a lot of the game against Morocco, only watched the first hour, but they were second best for a lot of that. Too many (tired) players from the PL, probably. I think the Scots could probably sneak a draw against Brasil, or maybe lose by a goal or two, can't see it being a hammering though.

All the Moroccan players play in hard European leagues, Hakimi was playing for PSG in the Champions League Final. Morocco are just a very good team, only one place below Brazil in the world rankings (which are often nonsense I know). SB [Post edited 14 Jun 9:38]

I saw or heard something recently about the number of minutes played by PL players compared to L1 players in France - this was probably around the CL final - needless to say, L1 players had played a lot less football over the season and seemed fresher. May be right, may be wrong, but the Moroccans were definitely more up for it last night than the Brasilians.

How did either of them make the squad ahead of Ross Stewart though?

How do PL teams play less? Reducing the league to 18 teams or restricts the financial pot further. You then have teams the size of Spurs and Forest as well in Champ so realistically the promotion/relegation is likely to be a closed loop of parachute payment teams. A financial restructure needed. No way the European games get reduced. Not competing in FA Cup would upset fans plus route to Europe. Really only the League Cup, also a route to Europe, is where teams couldn't play. Not simple to fix to keep leagues, clubs, fans and players all happy

I think rather than being more up for it, they just have more legs and running in their side. The Brazilian midfield is aging and looks pretty slow. Morocco just ran straight past them in the first half especially. SB

He’s more physical, but I can’t think of another reason. He’s a terrible footballer and not quick. Not that Hirst is Pele-like of course, but you’d think he’d get more of a runout unless Clarke simply doesn’t know how to use him.

I like Hirst but there is no getting away from the fact he was poor in the warm up matches. Frankly, he had a pretty average championship season. As I say, I like him, but whether he’s good enough for the PL? I guess that’s a decision for the new manager.

I haven't met anyone up here who rates Hirst in a Scotland shirt. I keep trying to tell them that his role at Ipswich is to bring the attacking tens into the game, whilst weighing in with the odd goal but they can't see it. Clarke trusts Shankland, Charles and Dykes and has had them in the squad for a long time. I think we will only see Hirst when Scotland are chasing the game.

I think I can answer your last question very easily and quickly, but I like your diplomacy. So yes, let’s leave it to the next manager.
