Sky say “they understand” we’ve been talking to 2 prospective managers 17:16 - Jun 16 with 5788 viewsMarkp68

SSN said about 10 minutes ago they understand we’ve spoken to both OGS and O’Neil. Can’t say either fill me with any great enthusiasm. Also said we hope to have a manager in place by the end of this month; surely we’d move faster than that?

I think when MA said “We’ll look at all markets. It’s interesting already the quantum of names that have come in." he honestly meant it.

This is his first time recruiting a Prem Manager, I think he will be properly considered in ensuring he has a man who ticks all the boxes KM did.

Hopefully wont take another two weeks but would not be at all surprised if it went into next week.

Knowing that whatever you think about MA, he is at least a shrewd operator on the football side, I wouldn’t mind a small bet then that it won’t be either of those if that’s what he’s allowed to get out into the press.

I think Joe and others are right - it’ll be somebody that’s not been mentioned yet.

The names are just guess work.

The perfect answer, for me, would have to have given Kieran a 12 month sabbatical and appoint OGS as manager for one season with an agreed role at the club when Kieran returned.

Please move on from Kieran.

From a logical standpoint, OGS is the one I would like more, especially if Pert and the coaching team remains.

I'm not sure 'continuity' is a priority.

We were woeful last time in the Prem. I'm not averse to a new manager bringing new ideas, and new staff if necessary.

Yep 👍

No disrespect to Kieran, but this gives us a chance at giving the PL a better shot. Of course it could all go to crap if we get it wrong, but we’ll have to go some to be as feeble as last time. Recruitment is obviously equally important in that equation. A known manager with good contacts and relationships in the game may give us the edge on recruitment too, maybe…

Just a rehash of the BBC story. Which is just a rehash of other stories.

We will need better than ONeil if we are going to survive. Other than his decent start at Bournemouth his record doesn’t make great reading.

OGS - has a decent record with exception of Cardiff …. Where he was frankly very poor. Relegation scrap? Not sure.

However much we don’t want to hear it, but Kieran has decided to move on. We must as well.

No way unless Ashton wants another relegation

Look at GON at Wolves with a team much more talented than ours. (Cunha, Ait-Nouri etc.) yet put in one of the worse PL performances ever when we beat them. Lost the dressing room as well.

I’m with you here,a rethink and some new ideas/systems will be a good thing . I’m excited to see us try something new. We can’t play like we did last time in the Prem.

If OGS was that good since leaving Besiktas he would have been snapped up. So hopefully Town are looking further afield.

I’m slightly surprised he’s apparently made the shortlist too. He’s not young (only a few months younger than me) and unless I’m missing something he hasn’t got the kind of managerial record we’d look for from someone who didn’t have a storied playing career.

Has KMcK given him a glowing reference?

He kept both Bournemouth and Wolves up. And what has since happened to Wolves suggests the issues ran deeper than the manager.

Bournemouth and Wolves both had far superior squads than us now though when GON kept them up

Unless we are willing to spend c.£250 million

Or lucky enough to have 3 clubs implode next season

OGS probably though keeps the coaching team together which could make it an easier transition

Question is though, should we get relegated he is the man to get us back up?

Yep just said on another forum. I love McKenna and was gutted he went but idk why everyone is so transfixed on Ole coming because he knows the coaches. He will likely change lots of them anyway especially if there is a suggestion that KM will want to take Pert and Turnbull to his next job which you imagine he will.

That’s not me saying I’m against ole but just don’t really think Pert staying is that big of a deal.

I’m not sure the easy transition is a big issue. Any manager worth their salt will come in with a couple of assistants/coaches. And the squad will be overhauled.

I’m strongly of the opinion that if we go down whoever we employ won’t be here for the following season … and if we are in the bottom three there will be a lot of pressure to change manager half way through the season.
