Even if that comment had been from O’Neil, your reaction is incredibly arrogant. What would in any weird reality be wrong with (for example), O’Neil making the comment after being with the club for a couple of weeks that he had experienced so much good stuff that he was totally convinced he’d made a good decision? Yes, we choose to offer him the position. He still had to choose to accept. Only once inside could he be sure it was a good decision.

He said he'd had offers from other clubs, was in a good job in France so it's quite legitimate for him to say that anyway. Reading a lot into statements by new managers or players is a bit pointless anyway. In most cases they are not going to say the truth, which is "this club was willing to pay me more than another" or in some cases, certainly during our Evans era, "this is the club willing to employ me". They are not going to divulge too much. It's some words for a press release. Utterly meaningless. It's all PR speak, of course they are going to say good things when coming in. I don't know why anyone pays any real attention to it. |  |
