But hands down The The for me. Matt Johnson was a long way ahead of his time. Whether he was writing about the creeping disenfranchisement and structural problems in the UK, the impending religious crusade in the Middle East, the breakdown in connections between individuals or how all of this was tied up together in a big western world narrative.
Seems like we're only now starting to see it the same way 30 years later.

Never listened to The The much, is this song a good starting point?
Here's another one, more recent...
...bloody amazing video too, well worth multiple watches to spot everything going on.
Yeah, I love the anger and humour in Childish Gambino - it's a powerful mix. Also he's great in Community but have you seen Atlanta as well? Much more serious but would thoroughly recommend it.
Re: The The, I'd listen to the whole of Infected first which shows the wider scope of his music. Then move to the albums either side of that: Soul Mining (more of the personal identity and isolation stuff) and Mind Bomb (more political).
Then there's Dusk which is him older and more reflective about everything but still angry enough.
There are lots of things outside that period (I love his Hank Williams covers album, Hanky Panky) but they get more specialist and niche.

(One of my all-time favourite songs for the last 2 decades, dunno how I forgot it, about the Juarez factory murders that happen not far from the band's home town)
(Powerful song, even more powerful video)
(Samples Charlie Chaplin's speech in The Great Dictator)
(The only Plan B song I like)
(Had a great time seeing them at Manchester Punk Festival whilst quite wasted last year)
(Short, sweet, to the point and a lot of naughty words LOL)

I Like The The, or, as they are known in Leeds, T' T'
this is as bitter as it gets

That whole ATDI album is an absolute masterpiece. Quality from front to back
Highlighting crass stupidity since sometime around 2010

It’s a top 3 for me I’d say. It has so many parallels with what Nirvana’s Nevermind was to Grunge music. ATD-I pretty much changed the game for Post-Hardcore with that record. No one’s managed to top it since.
