Boris 17:44 - Mar 12 with 4913 views | SouthBucksBlue | I’ve been very critical of him in the past but I thought he was impressive in his press conference. It just re-enforces what a disgrace Trump is. Very concerning stats though.

Boris on 17:52 - Mar 12 with 4262 views | Darth_Koont | I think it shows that BoJo at least has some standards. Just a shame these standards kick in as long as there is a global pandemic that will cause thousands and possibly millions of deaths worldwide. But yes, the fact that Trump seems to have absolutely no limits to his politicking is deeply concerning. [Post edited 12 Mar 2020 17:53]

People were worried about how they were going to pay for the budget, clearly they are expecting significant savings on pensions payments and a massive windfall on inheritance tax.

Boris is much more competent than Trump and so the comparison is entirely superficial.

Yes you’re right but I think they’re compared because they both champion leadership by personality which is quite rare in western politics. The main difference seems to be that Boris has a brain!

They're both incompetent, self-serving and untrustworthy. BoJo may be less so (Trump is a caricature of a man) but still woefully short of the capability and integrity needed.

There's that and the open racism, the shower of incompetents, weirdos and bigoyts he chooses to associate with, the endless marital slip-ups and the fact that idiots somehow still, despite everything he's better than 'communism/socialism'. [Post edited 12 Mar 2020 18:34]

In theory a Technocracy would work so much better than a democracy. But it wouldn't be very, what's the word?, democratic.

Boris on 18:46 - Mar 12 with 3796 views | ghostofescobar | Impressive is stretching it: he is still a charlatan and a lying pr1ck, but in this instance he knows that he can't lie about this virus. He can't chuck throw away lines to the press and never be challenged. He can't just say "piffle paffle". He can't just talk lots without saying anything. He simply can't make stuff up or avoid the issue. This is an unavoidable issue. No hiding from it. It is factual and can't be made into a joke or swatted away. So for once in his life, he did look a little like what he supposed to be: a serious politician.

That is technically possible in the US. All the important positions can be filled by people who actually know what they are doing rather than in this country where they have to be MPs. Unfortunately it never happens in the US though. SB

No- there are a number of other very significant parallels to be drawn. Not least in the manner in which messages are driven home, truth and integrity are considered expendable in the cause of the message, and contempt and derision directed at any expert, professional (judge, parliament, economists for instance) who do not fall in line.
