Sorry for negative post but just feeling the need to share 16:55 - Mar 23 with 2811 viewshomer_123

Not been a good day today, further confirmation of projects cancelled and work put on hold.

In the space of 10 or so working days - we have seen our business go from consistent year on year steady growth and recruitment to around 10% income of last month as of April.

Fully appreciate others will be in a similar boat (or worse)...we are faced with using our cash reserves to try and see us through this period. The Gov bail out, as things stands, would only see 80% of wages covered for anyone we put on furlough until May - given most of our work has been pushed back to at least September, this leaves a sizeable hole.

People are losing their lives and livelihoods - never had I anticipated it would be quite like this.

Apologies, for the negative tone - just the reality at the moment.

We've just had our big contract pulled, within the last hour or so - site shutting down on Wednesday so I've now got 15 or so blokes I need to try and redeploy

Sadly I need to start looking into the 'furlough' route as a matter of urgency and that will be evening and night today to see what we can do.

Have other little bits here and there, but nothing like enough to keep everyone working

Sorry to hear that. If you're apologising because of what I said, ignore me. I was pretty stressed at the time. Calmer now and more prepared thankfully but still concerned.

Let it out.

We've been desperately trying to look at ways to bring some further income in but (understandably) that's proving impossible pretty much. So I can fully appreciate what this is like.

Hope you can get sorted Joe.

Sorry to hear that — "hang in there" probably sounds trite but hope you are able to at least patch things over in a way that works for everyone.

Hang in there mate.

I have spent the weekend reviewing the retention scheme and waiting for more details to be released. Have reviewed the situation with my Finance Manager on a call today and now putting contingencies in place.

This month we are ok sales wise as billing a lot of works recently completed and still have operational staff out on sites. Some clients pushing their luck with it being "business as usual" and wanting everything completed to plan.

Its the next few months that will start affecting me so not looking forward to this.

It's hitting everybody hard in different ways. It WILL get better. The speed at which it does it largely down to how we all behave.

Above all remember that there is always a way back from a loss of livelihood, but not from a loss of life.

I said his threads were the most negative news feed ever.

To be honest I was just panicking. I'm now more prepared and ready for several months of lockdown, even if i'm dreading it.

If its any consolation I am suffering too.

I am an area manager in the pub trade and dealing with publicans livelihoods. Its not good.

I had thought about semi retirement next year when I am 53. With a nice bumper payout due at 55 I was going to start scaling down and live of some savings and pick up some PT work.

Now facing a reduced pot at 55 I intend to crack on for at least an extra couple of years and help my company recover from this.

Its an absolute B****d for us all. However lets limit the physical casualties here and go form there.

Yes, its grim. One of my teams have had c.£5m of work wiped for the next 3 months. Given what they do, I am not anticipating things getting back on their feet for closer to 12 months. That's a £15m hole. c.1000 people in limbo. Best we can hope for is that some of them get the 80% for the first 3 months.
