Evans does not escape blame for the squad we have.
However, other managers have managed to build squads far more effective than ours on much smaller budgets.
Lambert has had plenty of time to tweak and improve the squad.
I personally think there are plenty of decent enough players in it. The excuse that there aren't would still fall squarely on Lambert's shoulders. [Post edited 9 Feb 2021 21:33]

It really isn't, unless you're arguing the fact he's continuing to employ the wrong man?
You might have had more of an argument in the Championship but how many other League 1 clubs have the resources and willingness to bring in who we did in the transfer window? Yes they may have been loans, but they're still being paid and I doubt it's average League 1 player salaries. |  |

Who establishes and perpetuates the mentality in a football club? I find it hard to believe that we've just chanced on a squad of 35 whinging, slacking losers. The kids at other clubs are going to be just like ours - a mixture of personalities - they're just better managed, coached and set up is all. | |

5 players on our books were Hurst signings and one of them had a bid on the table last month and we chose not to sell. EDIT: and one of those was our best player for the first couple of months of the season.

How many of the players could cut it in the championship? Hardly surprising that they’re not overly motivated to push for promotion. Especially given that today’s decision re the salary cap has fallen in their favour.

It's not lack of investment at this level. He has been backed to get players in and good ones at that too. The post you are replying is making your very point. He should have been able to get in the right players to improve the squad not just lots of random players.
However, he has not built a cohesive squad.
