Hyam retires at 29 10:04 - Feb 27 with 1046 viewsMullet

That is a real shame. I know he was a functional player but lose that much of your career is terrible isn't it?

I think it was obvious his body gave up on him as an athlete long ago. I just hope Teddy Bishop doesn't go the same way as he has had a similar string of early career injuries.

Was it Wanyama who did him in during that cup game? Never saw him go off early before that and he never seemed to get back properly from memory. A bit like Huws it was a chain of injury upon injury until he dropped out completely.

Huge shame for a player who always gave Town everything he had.

Best of luck for the future.

I think tight budgets plus Skuse’s presence meant we tried to use Hyam as something he wasn’t which hindered his progression and subsequent support from the fans. Good he has a plan for the future and wish him all the best.

And Tom Adeyemi too, also 29.

A good player for us, unfortunately injuries got the better of him.

Hope he finds another career he enjoys.

I do think he was vastly overrated by some of our fans but nobody deserves to have their career cut short at 29.

Hope he makes a success of what follows.

I think so, he was never the same player after that.

Was sorry to hear that. I think he was hugely underrated here. Provided some real bite in midfield and did the simple things well. Mick clearly rated him. Never gave up and always put a shift in.

I think the first time I saw Hyam play was at Eindhoven where he was probably our best player, always demanding the ball, good tackling and passing.

Sad when a career is over when still in 20s

Somebody the other day was talking about him doing nothing since leaving us and apparent disappearance from the game, and this explains why.

Retiring a bit early, but he still had a reasonable length career. Not many get to play for their boyhood club. And he got out before the rubbish of the last couple of years.

Good luck to him in his next adventure.

I wonder if he'll go down the Akinfenwa/Chris Tremlett root and get massive?

Hyam has a gym in his house, so I'm told

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!
