International excess deaths data 12:25 - Mar 28 with 1672 viewsStokieBlue

Further to the excess deaths points which have been made lately, I think that unfortunately we are going to see a lot more revisions like this as international excess deaths data becomes available. For instance we know Russia is understating by about 100% and now Mexico has increased its deaths by 60% putting it over 320,000.

The actual figures when all is said and done are going to be awful :(.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/mar/28/mexico-covid-death-toll-rise-60-pe

If you can believe it I randomly had a poster PMing me last night saying that it was all media nonsense and all my posts during the pandemic had basically been fake information.

The deniers are still out there unfortunately.

Tell him to do one.

During the start of the pandemic, when records of deaths was difficult to get exact (Many in care homes weren't tested) it was always the excess deaths that gave clear unequivocal evidence of additional deaths from Covid.

Those in denial can't ever explain those deaths away. Make an argument that those deaths are better than lockdown (not one I agree with) but to pretend those deaths are not real is tin hat stuff :-(

Yeah, I think a lot of cover-ups and miscounting among the authoritarian, populist leaders and the totalitarian states (North Korea?) will come out in the wash.

Hopefully, openness and honesty can dominate in a Truth and Reconciliation-type way as it’s imperative that we learn the lessons of Covid as a planet and mitigate against other pandemics. The good news is that we’ve learnt a lot and the vaccines came online only a few months behind some of the most optimistic predictions.

Clearly, we could be looking at a much brighter future the more honest and rational we are about our failures as well as successes.

I’d say the same for those people who are Covid-deniers and pushing their nonsense. They really are/would be part of the problem and only cause more damage. Ridiculous that they’re posting that stuff on here and via PM seems even more disturbing as it’s direct and not about trolling/attention-seeking.

Tbf, there's not been much CV denial cr*p on here, thankfully.

Outside, that's a different matter. I remember one bloke complaining to me that the deaths hadn't hit the 500k projected and the lockdown clearly wasn't needed. There will always be some people with sh1t for brains.

Not sure if it’s still the case but Italy at one point fairly recently were still not counting care home covid deaths in official stats. Frances CV death rate never seems to respond to wildly fluctuating case rates as well, so who knows what the real situation is?

Sure. But I’ve certainly heard a lot of “shy deniers” and that’s basically what many of the people complaining about lockdown and always trying to lift it early or lessen it are guilty of.

Push these people a bit and they’ll spout something about “just like a bad flu season”.

And domestically, the case figures (nb ie infection rates, not death or hospitalisation rates, but thought it worth drawing attention to anyway) were on the rise to w/ending 21st March, in the NW & NE of England. Albeit still below R1, so still dropping overall, but means the drop rate slowed down. Will be interesting to see how it goes over/after the Easter school hols.

Name and shame IMO. To be a denier at this point people have to be an absolute moron.

Truly impaired.

There have been a lot of interesting articles in the Guardian about South America and this virus, in particular Brazil and Mexico. The actual situation looks to be truly appalling.

The official stats are all over the shop and as you indicate, excess deaths in the final assessment will be the only clue to the human cost of the pandemic. I read somewhere that Russia’s numbers are never 450,000 than the official 91,000. China? The truth of it? We will probably never know.

The stats are hugely political. Look how they’ve been used by the media despite obvious discrepancies and different ways of measuring and that hasn’t helped. As for the deniers, how much more evidence do you need? My buddy who is one just dismisses the evidence as conspiracy fuelled by controlled media. I’ve given up discussing it with him.

Run an imaginary book in your head on it & you'd probably come up with the right answer ...

Mrs Factual's cousin appears to be a 'denier'. He's 71 and won't have the vaccine, he says, for the DNA altering reasons.

Knowing him for the better part of thirty years, he's in fact a big sissy about anything medical and is simply trying to disguise his fear of needles.

Once he realises- or more precisely once his missus realises - they won't be able to go out for a meal, he'll have it.

As I said on another recent post Stokie I’ve got some friends, who are highly educated, who have fallen into a conspiracy theory black hole, and actively promoting the notion that there is zero impact on uk mortality rates by Covid!

It’s just frickin mental. I’m basically disconnecting from them.

This is a good piece of analysis to share with these nutters:

Upset a fella from Norfolk the other week who was moaning about how vaccines 'change your DNA' because I told him to 'think of it as an opportunity'.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

It was always going to go up after the kids went back to school if for no other reason than they are being tested twice a week, which will pick up all the asymptomatic cases that would otherwise go unnoticed.
