Anyone starting to get slightly annoyed with Cook's comments? 14:45 - Apr 23 with 5580 viewsITFC_96

I don't think throwing the players under the bus is helping anything at this point.

If he thinks all the players are crap or have no motivation then why does he keep picking them? He has been mentioning it for a month now and the virtually the same players are starting every game.

I guess because we have an obligation to see out the season with the FA otherwise like many others , I'd end the season right now anyway

As for his comment , I think he's spot on and it's all well deserved

Do you not think that this is simply a sign of how exasperated he is at this crop of players?

He's playing the best squads he sees we have. It is fairly apparent that our best ranks less than Northampton's best right now. So he's trying to light fires - its all he can do.

No. He's telling it straight.

Much better than Lambert coming out saying everything's absolutely brilliant, can't ask for any more etc.

Yes, all I see is a manager trying to pass the responsibility for the poor performances of his team onto others. Not unusual for a football manager, but given his reputation I thought he'd be better, and surprised at how well received his comments have been on here.

Read the articles and he explains why it's not a good time to play kids right now. Also you're right, Lambert saying how great they are every week worked really well didn't it?

I don't know why it surprises you, it's fairly obvious there's a big (occasionally sadistic) appetite for punishing these players.

It doesn't concern me at all that Paul Cook calls out the players as a bunch of useless tosspots! It's about time. They can all go, as far as I'm concerned.

Punishing? What are you going on about? Getting left out of the team isn't punishment. Getting honest feedback isn't punishment. They're still getting paid. And through covid they've avoided customer feedback completely. It's been an easy life for them being mediocre at ITFC and now it has to end.

At this point, with the season essentially over and all of these players gone by next season, the obvious delight some people are taking in all the "honest feedback" is about a desire to see the players get their comeuppance.

Someone else who thinks our players are wonderful.

I'm glad he's throwing them under the bus, in fact I'm glad that after doing it, he climbed into the drivers seat and backed the bus up over them too.

They've had an easy ride for far too long, they by and large, are a shame on this club.

That doesn’t mean we should just accept everything which comes out of his mouth at face value. He won’t throw players under the bus... he turns around and does just that. He says the players are trying and tiredness is the only issue... he then says they don’t care. He says that the blame stops at him... and then spends further interviews deflecting it towards the players at a rate of knots.

He’s a man full of contradictions and confusion; from a personal point of view I’m not surprised the players have downed tools as, if I worked for him, I’d hardly feel motivated either. Admittedly the same could be said for Hurst and Lambert!

He has an opportunity to rebuild the squad in the summer and we’ll start again from August. Despite the above I am still looking forward it as a clear out is exactly what the club needs. But today’s interview has just confirmed for me that Cook has checked out for this season as much as the players have, otherwise he wouldn’t be speaking about them in this manner.

Yes, I am amazed so many fans are just eating up after what we've had happen before. The logic was that Paul Lambert failed to deliver because he had the best squad in the league and failed to be promoted. They forget to mention the drastic under-funding by Evans, despite the lack of restrictions in League One, and the under funding of the medical aspect of the club leading to injury issues and the under funding of the overall fitness aspect. These issues are now all the players fault according to the supporters who had up until just a few months ago had blamed the manager for all these problems and repeated the same thing, that we had the best squad in the league. Now Cook has arrived they have all become mercenaries and terrible apparently yet nobody is connecting the dots. We also keep hearing that it's Lambert's squad but if you look who signed most of it, it was Mick McCarthy and a fair few had played in the Championship at a decent level for years like Ward, Chambers, Skuse, Bishop, Sears and Huws yet now these players are all suddenly terrible over night.

Because if he didn't pick them, we wouldn't have a team.

He is blunter than I expected. But, given that we're so close to the end of the season, given that the new owners clearly agree with him and given that most of these players have been total cr*p for two years, I say crack on.

The time to judge him is next April.

What, to your mind, is the purpose of a weekly update about how rubbish this group of players is?

It'll be interesting to see how many of these posts re emerge this time next year.

Unfortunately I don't understand what point you are trying to make.

Is it?

1). That the players have always been rubbish so it wasn't Lambert's fault.
2). That the players are good and both Lambert and Cook are rubbish.
3). That we have been underfunded and that is the reason we are rubbish.
4). Something else.

Point of order, PL's squad was most certainly not MM's.

It was PL and PH's, with a few exceptions.

I think eh will be our most divisive manager yet. Many fans have adopted him as religiously as they did Lambert, he was the one everyone wanted to so to be wrong on Cook is impossible in some supporters minds already.

The only players of note in our squad to have played for McCarthy are Chambers, Skuse and Sears, so to say he "signed most of it" is complete nonsense of the highest order.

You state you think the cause of our malaise is Evans and/or lack of sports science, yet are now happy to blame Cook after just 6 weeks at the club?

These are the ramblings of a lunatic.
