Hmmm. I'd disagree that appearance is EVERYTHING. I tend to wear jeans and a t-shirt when out and about, which don't really reflect any of the things bankers refers to. I don't wear obvious designer labels. Had to smarten up for a wedding recently and had to get the Lady Dollers seal of approval, but while smarter than the aforementioned they weren't expensive. You can have nice clothes without overtly displaying wealth and/or labels.

I genuinely mean no offence Dollers as I really like you but you sound like a right scruffy bastard. I believe you also have a beard. I may get a few flames here but I think beards are for lazy feckers or people who want to hide.

haha. Blimey, you think people without brand labels are scruffy? Or the simple T-shirt/jeans combo can't look smart? You sound like you've been fooled by the capitalist and consumerist society we live in. You should change your name to FashionistaDebtSlave! I think those on here who know me or are FB friends wouldn't describe me as "scruffy". Also, beards, if kept properly (which I do) take a lot of maintenance and anyone calling that laziness is doing so from a position of ignorance. My beard takes more care and attention than a beardless fellow. Rather than laziness or hiding, beards are babe-magnets. Nothing more needs to be said than that. [Post edited 6 Sep 2021 10:03]

I am definitely scruffy and yet still an absolute babe magnet. Just putting it out there...now back to seizing the means of production!

Beardist. Beardism is to be discouraged on the board. Beards are great. I often find little morsels of decomposing food in mine that is great for picking out for an impromptu snack. Jeans and t-shirt plus beard the way to go......plus Mrs SSB finds the beard somewhat of an aphrodisiac.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Absolutely. I fall into category 1. And I wear shorts and t shirt at work.

I AM a lazy fecker (retired) and I have a beard. But I'm not your flame - I have some standards y'know.

Does stuff reflect your sense of self/individualism... on 13:34 - Sep 6 with 1891 views | Dubtractor | To answer the OP, for me probably a bit of the sense of self/individualism, and not anything about status/ego. To reinforce this, I drive a 7 year old bog standard VW Polo. Status does not interest me at all! I do spend a decent chunk of money on nice things, but never to impress anyone else!
