Doesn't he just.

Kind of like him still, but it's sure as hell getting on my tits the injuries/fitness/etc. It's beyond irritating. Maybe I won't go until October. Hmpf.

I'm glad to hear it grates for someone else, because it's really starting to grate with me. It's becoming his stock statement much as 'I've played for some big clubs' was Lambert's.

I was looking forward to reading what he had to say this morning, feeling positive, especially after all the transfer activity and you read all those interview stories in the News Feed this morning and he sounds like he's almost preparing us for disappointment on Saturday. Edwards is out and that's a miss, but Morsy and Celina were never going to play so nothing to moan about there. I really wanted to read him being bullish about our chances. Not trotting out a bunch of:

- 'we're brand new'
- 'I'm not a stupid person'
- 'Whilst we’re not looking for excuses, I’m not that type of manager and never
have been and never will be, the brutal reality is that we are going to take a
little bit of time to get up to speed.'
- 'We seem to make one step forward and one step back and one step forward
and one step back'
- 'we are going to need a little bit of time to get up to speed.'
- 'Only time can bring us to gel together and that’s what we’ll need'
- 'If we’d have seen the game out with Wimbledon [to win 2-1] we’d all be sitting
looking forward to tomorrow’s game thinking we can jump up to eighth, sixth
in the league, whatever it might be.'
- 'With everything that’s gone on, listen, I’m not an excuse-making person, but
the brutal reality for us is that we want to get more points on the board,'
- 'That doesn’t mean we’re not going to win tomorrow or we’re not going to try
and give everything we can to win.'

I mean for FFS Paul. That all sounds so familiar and negative. You've got the best squad in the league by a country mile and then some. If a couple of players are out you should still probably be able to put out two different teams that could win on Saturday from the resources at your disposal. So lets sound a little bit more positive and champing at the bit to go and smash Bolton off the park. Stop coming out with this disheartening, excuse riddled, rubbish!

We can win. We must win. We will win. More like that please!

Didn't pre-season start quite a while ago regardless of where you as a player were training ?

Depends on their clubs

Some had more games postponed due to covid than others
Some had lighter pre season schedules that we'd have wanted them to get etc etc

The feeling I’m getting from his press conferences now is he’s not targeting promotion this season, by the constant negativity and reference to time being needed. Which, considering where we finished with a much lesser squad last season, is nigh on ridiculous.

I get that for sure Joe.

But I really don't think this way of speaking is doing him any favours. And he's been pretty consistent with it since day one.

Some had lighter pre season schedules that we'd have wanted them to get etc etc

And some weren't with clubs, of course.

I get all that BUT come on we're weeks in from the very first week of training

I'm also not naive enough to understand general fitness is different to "match" fitness either

Point being it's been the same for most on the whole let's be honest

I think it's interesting that a lot of fans on here were overwhelmed by Cook's 'refreshing honesty' last season and applauded him for telling it like it is.

I don't find him particularly honest or open. Just a line of different BS to be honest. I like the guy, but he needs wins.

He must have realised he's got to be a bit more cautious given what happened in the last two months of last season. When he was taking over his main target was promotion. That bunch of failures badly let him down so he probably thinks he can't use that 'promotion' word so hastily again.

I just want to hear a manager speak positively about an upcoming game

Don't care if we have 11 injuries, see it as a chance for the other 11 to get the win and stake their claim for the shirt........

We keep hearing run towards adversity, well all we're hearing is we can't run towards it as we keep moving backwards.

Rather than, oh it's tough old life at the moment

I've seen them maybe 6 times live.

I also saw Jason Isbell do an acoustic set to about 20 people. And bizarrely I also saw one the first performances of him and the orginal 400 unit when Browan Lollar was the guitarist in a venue in Bedford that was bizarrely like a small village hall. He came on and looked a bit surprised especially when the sound didn't work, then shrugged his shoulders and blew the roof off the place.

I've only seen them a couple of times, though I still have tickets for a gig scheduled for last year that keeps getting moved.

Based on his twitter account, Jason Isbell seems like one of the most sound people in the music industry.
