I got to thinking how funny it has been that we've had a few non-derby rivalries over the last few seasons, some of these were rivalries that were not really of our own creation
Brentford - Stickers? Or am I making this up
Colchester United - Love treating us like a derby
Cambridge United - Celebrated against us like a cup final
Portsmouth - Not happy with our financial freedom
Bristol City - They don't like Ashton very much, most have come around to the fact it might not have been his fault, except that Fez fella who still talks about him with venom.
Leeds - Promotion Rivalry (the most understandable one)

This will sound very weird to younger people, but Manchester City.
There was a time when they missed out and failed got relegated a lot almost as much, if not more, than us. In the 70s they were often better than United, but way behind Liverpool and usually behind us.
It really started though with the FA Cup SF, which we should have won. Then in all the way up to Burley’s time we competed with them for promotion and of course saw them relegated in 2001.

My dislike for man city is very close to my dislike of Norwich, and this started before they hit the lottery win. Maine Road night games led the coach down some dodge avenues and some really iffy looking folks used to give it large to the coach. Not to mention the Nicky Weaver vs Richard Wright rivalry.
I have to say, their jackpot win has probably kept my distain going, but I would rather anyone but them succeed in the cup and league, barring Norwich. | |

Lived in Manchester 96-2000.
Developed a dislike of Citeh fans as they somehow thought getting 33,000 in 3rd tier qualified them for Champions league.
They hated Southampton who regularly finished top 6 despite The Dell being limited to sub-20,000.
Plus saw numerous cowardly attacks on away fans by their fans. |  |
