Transfers in that happily proved you wrong 22:32 - Aug 25 with 3062 views | Churchman | There have plenty of rubbish players who’ve signed for Ipswich, particularly in recent years. Real turkeys. However, there are some who’ve turned out brilliantly. For example, I give you Mark Venus. A real makeweight in the Sedgley deal with Wolves. Initial thoughts were what on earth are we taking that load of rubbish with a comedy name on for? What is Burley doing lumbering us with a second rate old bloke of 30? Squad fodder. Talk about getting mugged off by Wolves! Errrr, six years, 148 appearances, 16 goals, a promotion, a short stint in the PL and a player of the year award, how wrong can you be? It was Wolves that got mugged off. He was absolutely terrific for us and a far better player than I thought he would be. There are plenty of others. [Post edited 25 Aug 2022 22:34]

That's not to mention an absolutely stinking debut. Now on his day he's one of the nicest footballers to watch at the club. Either I'm a great judge of character or I just give most incoming players the benefit of the doubt, because I'm struggling to think of any more.

How about Sylvain Legwinski? Old, sad has been picking up two years pension thought I when he signed in 2006 age 33. Why, Just why? He was actually still a really good player, especially in his first season. Legs may have gone, but boy could he play. Scored against Norwich too. 47 appearances, 7 goals. A good signing.

I was quite excited by that signing. Wasn't sold on Shefki though when he signed!!

Transfers in that happily proved you wrong on 23:24 - Aug 25 with 2413 views | MattinLondon | Alan Lee. At the time I thought that he was an awful signing but he proved me wrong. Also, to a greater extent David Johnson, a so-so track record with Bury and we paid over a million. AMA ing bit of business.

Transfers in that happily proved you wrong on 23:51 - Aug 25 with 2344 views | Coastalblue | Probably Armstrong for me, knew little about him except he was playing in Boro's reserves, don't think he had scored many for 2 or 3 years before. Was never prolific for us but was an important forward who scored some very important goals. Budgieintheroom will be along shortly to reiterate his point that Burley signed lots of donkeys.

Had played for Ajax and had a Holland cap, I was excited by that one. May have been good on Championship Manager too.

Transfers in that happily proved you wrong on 06:54 - Aug 26 with 2026 views | Churchman | Going back a bit, Arnold Muhren. I’d never heard of the bloke. Ok, he might be Dutch, but so is Edam cheese. Talbot had gone and there we were bringing in this bloke. I was even less impressed when I saw him play. Didn’t seem to be able to tackle, shoot, looked weak, not involved what on earth was Robson doing wasting money on him? He won’t last long here. It didn’t age well.
Transfers in that happily proved you wrong on 07:45 - Aug 26 with 1904 views | ElephantintheRoom | Shefki Kuqi perhaps? An uninspiring free from Shef Wed I remember being underwhelmed by the signing of Paul Cooper who had a terrible debut But as many have said Taricco must win this one hands down

Agree I remember his debut in a 3-0 home loss against Liverpool (if my memory is not playing tricks) I wasn’t overly impressed, how wrong could I be!
Transfers in that happily proved you wrong on 08:11 - Aug 26 with 1826 views | monkeymagic | I recall being underwhelmed by the arrival of Paul Mason, and I thought Mowbray looked very poor in his first few games and wasn’t confident he would come good. More recently, I was worried Walton wasn’t an upgrade following his debut against Bolton. I don’t think my services will be needed by the ITFC recruitment team.

I was there as well. The ball spent most of the time going over his head and he looked completely lost. Once we played to his strengths however, what a player!
Transfers in that happily proved you wrong on 08:19 - Aug 26 with 1774 views | DanTheMan | Donacien. After watching him play for us after we first bought him I thought he was rubbish for what we paid. Just couldn't see it at all. Proved me massively wrong though.

I was hoping that there would be a problem with his work permit and we would not be able to sign him permanently. I hang my head in shame.

I was at the game. The ball was sailing over his head, whenever we got hold of it. Thought it might have been Man U but having checked you are right - it was Liverpool.

Totally with you. He’s only recent but I can’t think of a single player in my town following days (over 50 years) that has so dramatically turned things around. Stunning really - from the willing trier, but actually quite useless player to one who is first on the team sheet and regularly MOTM is really a metamorphosis.

Transfers in that happily proved you wrong on 09:05 - Aug 26 with 1613 views | BloomBlue | Daryl Murphy. When we signed him permanently I felt he would be good for the team overall but not the 20 goal a season striker that we required, after all his stats up to that point indicated he wouldn't even get into double figures. I was calling for us to buy that 20 goal a season striker and was disappointed when we didn't... oh how wrong was I
