Gassan Ahadme 16:25 - Sep 2 with 3403 views | Kropotkin123 | I don't know much about the player, so I was pleasantly surprised that so many others seemed excited by the signing. I was expecting to come on here and read statements along the lines of "Missed out on Hirst, bought someone who had one good game against us". Aside from the trust in KM, MA and the recruitment team, why are people positive about this signing? What does he offer us that we don't already have? Do people perceive him as first choice ahead of Ladapo? Or a situational choice like TJJ? Feel free to answer similar questions that weren't asked. Genuinely surprised and interested, rather than looking to make sly criticism.

Gassan Ahadme on 16:36 - Sep 2 with 3300 views | Steve_M | It helps he stood out against us only a couple of weeks ago, a real pain for our defenders who held the ball up well but probably missed the one good chance he had (he shot straight at Walton). Very much an alternative to Ladapo in that role, although one would assume that Ladapo starts on Saturday. We can clearly play without that kind of striker - Shrewsbury for example - but we were very reliant on Ladapo when we needed more physicality. [Post edited 2 Sep 2022 17:02]

Gassan Ahadme on 16:41 - Sep 2 with 3254 views | jayessess | In terms of his qualities - he's pretty much the only striker I've seen ruffle Woolfenden physically since his return to form. He was very strong, leading Burton's very effective press, competing well in aerial duels, looked technically assured. For his level of experience and the price, it's clearly a bit of a punt, but one I'm pleased to see us take. As George Hirst and Scott Twine demonstrate any young player who smashes up this league is going to be beyond our budget/status at the moment, so spotting players when they're just about to do that rather than after they have is key to getting a bargain. I think we've got enough good forward players that we could afford a risk like Ahadme and doing so is a better long term move than potentially overpaying for someone a bit more polished. Gassan Ahadme on 16:44 - Sep 2 with 3234 views | ArnieM | He seems to be a good old fashioned centre forward that has physicality, likes playing with his bs k to goal. Good around the box. Has an arial threat and capable of bringing others into the game. Not sure what we paid for him but he’s already in 5 goals this season I think , quote “ in a poor Burton side”. A very astute signing I think , and personally I feel a much better bet than Hirst. I base this in the fact that our new man has already shown he can deal with the demands of league one. I’m not so sure Hirst would.

Gassan Ahadme on 16:45 - Sep 2 with 3233 views | SomethingBlue | A bit of a low-risk, high potential ceiling one I think — but clearly a talent, Norwich tend to recruit young players astutely, and physically very good for a 21-year-old. Encouraging that he has noticeably kicked on at this level over the past year too. At his age you'd expect a lot of improvement over the next three years if everything is tuned in. Doesn't always play out that way, and I'm certainly not expecting a huge goal haul from him this season, but there's a lot to work with here I think. (I say low risk — a more negative reading would argue that the risk in not signing a player with proven ability to fire you to promotion is pretty high ... just to add "balance") [Post edited 2 Sep 2022 16:46]

Not sure I've got your rationale here. Hirst has already "dealt with the demands of League One", hasn't he? Certainly more than Ahadme has thus far

Gassan Ahadme on 17:03 - Sep 2 with 3035 views | FrimleyBlue | I like the project that he's not that much different to what we already have and that itself is a massive plus. So far we've come against some sides that sat deep and found a way of beating them.. imo it was important we got someone who could potentially do the same job as Ladapo so that we have a continuous rotation opportunity without it harming our style. Ahadme is on the right side of his development upon joining. He's had the journey start with pompy time, and JFH at Burton sings his praises on how hes adjusted and developed whilst there and his stats so far have shown that this season. It's an exciting prospect.

Gassan Ahadme on 20:37 - Sep 2 with 2395 views | BlueandTruesince82 | 21, 4 goals and 2 assists this season already, seemed like he was real handful against us doing the physical side and we need a bit of that for teams that just want to park the bus against us. I'm far more excited by him than I was at the prospect of Hirst TBH.. not saying he's better but has a bit more romance about it

The same George Hirst that spent all last season at Portsmouth, the season before at Rotherham and is now at Blackburn? The one whose parent club are in the premiership? That George Hirst? I'm happy with the signing too of Ahadme but let's not get carried away, Hirst is a proven League One / Championship player with a potentially very high ceiling.
Gassan Ahadme on 21:53 - Sep 2 with 2138 views | Nthsuffolkblue | He appears to have played well against us and scored a few goals already this season. He is a player I have never heard of but from a lower team in our league. He feels to me a bit like a David Johnson II type of signing. After watching Tuesday night's game back as well, I feel decidedly happy with the squad we have at the moment.

Gassan Ahadme on 22:42 - Sep 2 with 1946 views | FromReuserWithLove | I'm hoping it's like the Walters signing after the cup game. He's cheap, seems to have the right attitude, young, physical, JFH can spot a striker and he's ours.
Gassan Ahadme on 07:52 - Sep 3 with 1497 views | ElephantintheRoom | You could argue that after a year McKenna is beginning to appreciate what is required in the third division. Granted the subs bench will be pretty crowded with wannabe strikers - but a big fella up front who can cause a bit of mayhem is quite useful. And there’s a chance, unlike Lapado, that he might improve. Beyond that it’s only borrowed money so there is nothing much to lose - and quite a bit to gain. This is franchise football

Nicely balanced post. Semi-positive on Ahadme, negative on Ladapo. Great cover work, BobInTheElephant. Nice to see one of your own taking a step to the biggest and best club of his football career, I guess.

Exactly, he's got the makings of a cult player hasn't he? Big, can play a bit, will rough up the opposition, ex budgie come good....
Gassan Ahadme on 12:03 - Sep 3 with 1112 views | OldFart71 | Currently we are obviously a big fish in a small pond. Come the time, hoping it's next season, we are in the Championship we will no longer be the big fish, but certainly not a tiddler. Looking further ahead and hopefully a return to the Premier League we would then be a relatively small team and that's where in order to hold our own it becomes necessary to pick up jewels ( Not Paul) so that they can be sold at considerable profit in order to keep us in that league and pay Premier wages.

I think you are being very premature on Hirst. He's certainly not a proven Championship player, he failed to score in 31 appearances at that level for Rotherham. And he really had one good half season for Pompey in L1. I never saw him as a slam dunk if he came here and the numbers being talked about for him at the moment (£4-£5m) seem bonkers to me. He was clearly hugely rated as a young kid and got that big move to Leicester but he's not really lived up to that billing yet. It'll be interesting to see how he does at Blackburn.
