You obviously missed Angela Rayner on several news bulletins this morning then, saying Labour would overturn the tax rises of yesterday's "mini-budget"; and invest heavily in renewables, which would make us self-sufficient in energy & create many jobs.

The left has solutions. Nationalisation of utilities, more redistributive taxes on high incomes and extortionate profits, Green industrialisation, a much higher minimum wage, more secure employment, more housing, more food security, a benefit system designed around lifting people from poverty rather than trapping them into it etc.
But the left is marginalised and demonised in the current Labour Party much more than even in society at large.
The government and the opposition are both right wing and support the underlying yet flawed system. That’s why there are no real alternatives being offered or even discussed. |  |

Starmer is a very uninspiring leader of the opposition and is more worried with not doing anything that might be controversial to red-wall Daily Mail readers than having actual policies. Whether this is banning his MPs from supporting strikes or silencing any republican elements within his party, its all about being inoffensive rather than innovative.
Its a shame Corbyn couldn't keep some of his weirder foreign policy ideas to himself, because the core of his domestic manifesto was genuinely a fresh of breath air.
The current Conservative government are a cluster-feck who are going to destroy our economy. But they at least have a vision. Its a vision which will benefit the 1% at the expense of everyone else. But its a vision.
We need clear ideas to get out of this mess: nationalisation of key assets, investment in green technologies to promote growth and self-sufficiency, a genuine route for every family in this country to own a home. Starmer's "middle of the road" nothingness is not providing a credible alternative to the Conservatives. He needs to go before the next general election and be replaced by someone with a vision. | | | |
