Indifference to the World Cup.... 09:18 - Oct 25 with 4519 viewsBloots

....I know all the cool kids and edgelords always say it, but there really is a noticeable indifference to the upcoming World Cup isn't there?

Less than 4 weeks to the start and even the normally OTT media outlets can hardly be bothered to mention it.

I appreciate proper football is still on, and would always take precedence for the real fans, but I'm genuinely surprised by the lack of promotion.

I wonder if FIFA will regret anything, knowing them not, but sponsors, promoters, rights owners must all be wondering if it was worth paying all the backhanders to get involved.

The long terms damage could be significant......but we won't see that for a while.

Not sure if it's cause or effect but I feel the same tbh. Not as bothered about it as I would normally be, I'm hoping that changes when it starts. As I say, not sure if that's just because nobody seems to be too interested in it.

Reckon the circus will trundle on in four years time as before, and anyway, all the naked emperors this time round will see it as a resounding success no matter what.

I couldn't give a hoot, yet. Sure, I'll watch it once it starts, obvs. As you say, club football is in full flow and for ITFC fans and I'm sure many others the WC is actually an unwelcome distraction. Which is ridiculous really.

Fook FIFA and all who sail up her.

Yeah I was thinking that the other day - doesn’t really work as a mid-season thing does it. A shame for the players for whom this might be their only World Cup as it really does seem a minor build up so far.

When it’s here I’m sure it will be brilliant but misses the grandeur of a season worth of build up for sure.

It's simply because the season is in full flow Bakers, innit. I'm pretty sure I'll get into it once it starts.

100%. Can't muster any interest. Whether that is my age, the time of year, other stuff going on in the world or what I know the whole event stands for....or a combination of all of the above....I don't know.

Evening kick-offs will mean I will inevitably watch some of it, but I am not expecting my engagement to improve significantly. In some ways I almost hope it doesn't.

Prem football is still on. England don't look likely to do much do they? The country is going down the sh1tter and there's a constant circus around the monarchy and more so the government.

I reckon if people weren't so worried about heating, eating and housing there'd be an appetite for it, but it's going to be in the middle of winter. There'll be no nationwide big meet ups in the pubs and all day drinking like in summer will there?

The timing of it is absolutely having an effect, imagine the coverage will go into overdrive once the last PL weekend before it starts is over.

Think there's also a bit of uneasiness because of where it's being held, although once it starts maybe everyone will just focus on the sport. FIFA won't care one jot, and the big sponsors are probably quite happy being immoral.

Saudi Arabia want to host 2030, that will be a test of whether anyone in the important positions have learned anything.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

For us normal people Dyllers - you're not going to schlep from pub to pub in the cold and rain with no beer gardens etc all weekend like a summer WC. Will definitely put the casual types off.

Pub crawls are for stag dos and maybe impromptu sessions, not football.

There's nothing worse than that fake beer chucking thing when watching football is there? Especially as it's usually Dark Fruits not beer because those sort of people are allowed out in public.

Edgelord. If you don't like it don't watch it etc...

I'm in the same boat though tbh, I'm sure I'll watch it when it comes round, but I have precisely zero excitement building about it, and I usually love watching the world Cup.

The WC build-up normally starts at the end of the season - there’s a clear dividing line between the end of domestic football and the start of the WC.

I guess when the PL is suspended that will be when all the talk etc will begin.

Just from my experience I completely forgotten when the WC kicks off - normally I’m like a big kid at the start to it.

I think it is just because PL and Champions League still running that nothing will take the limelight away from them - was incredibly stupid by FIFA but they were hoisted by own petard of rules they had in place to give power to a few people and it just got away from Blatter as the genie was out of the bottle.

Not that Blatter wasn't corrupt, but he knew what was good and what wasn't for world football and this was never in a million years good for it.

Even for people like us, when World Cup starts it won't be the same because we'll still be following Ipswich first and foremost

AN absolute joke that it is there

I make Mullet right, political and economic pressures are pushing the upcoming World Cup into the shade in the United Kingdom. This is probably true for a lot of domestic football as well but not so noticeable for Town supporters as we are doing well for a change.

And if you think that the United Kingdom has problems spare a thought for another football crazy part of the Earth where Bolsonaro is getting set to outdo Trump at throwing toys out of the pram when you lose an election:

For the first time ever in 50 years of being on this planet I have no interest in this world cup.

I also have no interest in the current England team.

I really wish it wasn't in Qatar but from a purely football standpoint i'm really looking forward to it. I've got lots of holiday left so have plenty of afternoons booked off.

I'm hoping the general opinion of this tournament is that it was great on the pitch but a one off and we go back to normal summer tournaments and the countries they are awarded to are chosen much more carefully.

Truly impaired.
