....I know all the cool kids and edgelords always say it, but there really is a noticeable indifference to the upcoming World Cup isn't there?
Less than 4 weeks to the start and even the normally OTT media outlets can hardly be bothered to mention it.
I appreciate proper football is still on, and would always take precedence for the real fans, but I'm genuinely surprised by the lack of promotion.
I wonder if FIFA will regret anything, knowing them not, but sponsors, promoters, rights owners must all be wondering if it was worth paying all the backhanders to get involved.

I think it is just because PL and Champions League still running that nothing will take the limelight away from them - was incredibly stupid by FIFA but they were hoisted by own petard of rules they had in place to give power to a few people and it just got away from Blatter as the genie was out of the bottle.
Not that Blatter wasn't corrupt, but he knew what was good and what wasn't for world football and this was never in a million years good for it.
Even for people like us, when World Cup starts it won't be the same because we'll still be following Ipswich first and foremost

I've been taking less & less interest in international football for a long time. I will watch the England group games & then some of the interesting looking k/o games. It's going to be even worse with the 2026 World Cup having a preposterous 48 teams in the finals. |  |

Tbh I really don't care.
Obviously I want England to win and I will watch all theiebgames. I doubt I'll watch any others.
It's an abomination to have it in winter, interrupting all major football seasons and all major fantasy league seasons.
If Quatar or anywhere similar wants to host a WC they should be building enough air conditioned facilities to accommodate the event in summer, when it should be happening.
The whole thing stinks of bribery and shoddy conditions forced upon the migrant population that have made it possible for them are quite disgusting.
Part of me hopes all the football is crap, the viewing figures appalling and sponsors feel ripped off (those who attend will certainly feel that way based on the accommodation prices I've seen) and lay down the law that this can never, ever happen again.

I don't even know when the kick offs are and who is broadcasting. I've forgotten who are in England's group and I would struggle to name who has qualified beyond the obvious.
Fair to say, this the least invested I have been in a major tournament. I may be bitten by the bug nearer the time but it feels different. |  |

Normally, on the morning of England's first game in the WC or Euros, I'll put on (very loudly) both "World in Motion" and of course "Three Lions" and have a little cry - born in 67 I missed our last victory, and with every year the chance of seeing another one diminishes.
This year, I won't be doing that. I won't watch, even if we get to the finals.
Once everything about FIFA was known and proved, the WC should have gone elsewhere. It's been held in a country that has zero interest in the game, other than just to "regime wash" their feudal dictatorship. This is a country partly under Sharia law, where political parties and trade unions are illegal and people receive 100 strokes of the lash for adultery.
It should never have been awarded, the traditional dates for the WC should never have been moved, and by going there, every team including England is propping up a state where half the population - women - are treated as second-class citizens.

I make Mullet right, political and economic pressures are pushing the upcoming World Cup into the shade in the United Kingdom. This is probably true for a lot of domestic football as well but not so noticeable for Town supporters as we are doing well for a change.

Prem football is still on. England don't look likely to do much do they? The country is going down the sh1tter and there's a constant circus around the monarchy and more so the government.

I get completely absorbed by international tournaments and will watch every single game regardless of who is playing or what time of day or night it is.

I think one of the main reasons is it’s mid season. Usually it’s all we look forward to in the off season so there is a big build up of anticipation.
