Indifference to the World Cup.... 09:18 - Oct 25 with 4522 views | Bloots | ....I know all the cool kids and edgelords always say it, but there really is a noticeable indifference to the upcoming World Cup isn't there? Less than 4 weeks to the start and even the normally OTT media outlets can hardly be bothered to mention it. I appreciate proper football is still on, and would always take precedence for the real fans, but I'm genuinely surprised by the lack of promotion. I wonder if FIFA will regret anything, knowing them not, but sponsors, promoters, rights owners must all be wondering if it was worth paying all the backhanders to get involved. The long terms damage could be significant......but we won't see that for a while.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 09:42 - Oct 25 by itfcjoe | I think it is just because PL and Champions League still running that nothing will take the limelight away from them - was incredibly stupid by FIFA but they were hoisted by own petard of rules they had in place to give power to a few people and it just got away from Blatter as the genie was out of the bottle. Not that Blatter wasn't corrupt, but he knew what was good and what wasn't for world football and this was never in a million years good for it. Even for people like us, when World Cup starts it won't be the same because we'll still be following Ipswich first and foremost AN absolute joke that it is there |
I've been taking less & less interest in international football for a long time. I will watch the England group games & then some of the interesting looking k/o games. It's going to be even worse with the 2026 World Cup having a preposterous 48 teams in the finals.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 12:14 - Oct 25 with 1421 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I genuinely have 0 interest in this world cup. Completely indifferent on whether England win it or go out in the group. Ipswich playing at the same time, that's where my focus will be.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 12:24 - Oct 25 with 1389 views | BlueandTruesince82 | Tbh I really don't care. Obviously I want England to win and I will watch all theiebgames. I doubt I'll watch any others. It's an abomination to have it in winter, interrupting all major football seasons and all major fantasy league seasons. If Quatar or anywhere similar wants to host a WC they should be building enough air conditioned facilities to accommodate the event in summer, when it should be happening. The whole thing stinks of bribery and shoddy conditions forced upon the migrant population that have made it possible for them are quite disgusting. Part of me hopes all the football is crap, the viewing figures appalling and sponsors feel ripped off (those who attend will certainly feel that way based on the accommodation prices I've seen) and lay down the law that this can never, ever happen again. I submit that the next winter Olympics be held in LA, in the summer becaues why not right?

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 13:05 - Oct 25 with 1346 views | gainsboroughblue | I don't even know when the kick offs are and who is broadcasting. I've forgotten who are in England's group and I would struggle to name who has qualified beyond the obvious. Fair to say, this the least invested I have been in a major tournament. I may be bitten by the bug nearer the time but it feels different.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 13:28 - Oct 25 with 1324 views | fab_lover | Normally, on the morning of England's first game in the WC or Euros, I'll put on (very loudly) both "World in Motion" and of course "Three Lions" and have a little cry - born in 67 I missed our last victory, and with every year the chance of seeing another one diminishes. This year, I won't be doing that. I won't watch, even if we get to the finals. Once everything about FIFA was known and proved, the WC should have gone elsewhere. It's been held in a country that has zero interest in the game, other than just to "regime wash" their feudal dictatorship. This is a country partly under Sharia law, where political parties and trade unions are illegal and people receive 100 strokes of the lash for adultery. It should never have been awarded, the traditional dates for the WC should never have been moved, and by going there, every team including England is propping up a state where half the population - women - are treated as second-class citizens. It's an individual decision, it's my decision, but this WC doesn't exist for me.

The next World Cup in 2026. Really looking forward to that one. Will be doing a North American road trip to coincide. Just hoping the £ is worth something against the $ then.

Bit of a stretch there mate..... on 09:58 - Oct 25 by WeWereZombies | I make Mullet right, political and economic pressures are pushing the upcoming World Cup into the shade in the United Kingdom. This is probably true for a lot of domestic football as well but not so noticeable for Town supporters as we are doing well for a change. And if you think that the United Kingdom has problems spare a thought for another football crazy part of the Earth where Bolsonaro is getting set to outdo Trump at throwing toys out of the pram when you lose an election: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-63369178 Throwing grenades at coppers before the vote has even taken place ? I wonder if the Brazil team will make it to Qatar... |

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 09:36 - Oct 25 by Dubtractor | Edgelord. If you don't like it don't watch it etc... I'm in the same boat though tbh, I'm sure I'll watch it when it comes round, but I have precisely zero excitement building about it, and I usually love watching the world Cup. |
Is it because we’ve been a bit shoite of late, and we won’t get the run in we had in the last World Cup, or euros.. and will probably go out in the groups.. just to Add to the rest of the doom and gloom.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 09:26 - Oct 25 by Mullet | Prem football is still on. England don't look likely to do much do they? The country is going down the sh1tter and there's a constant circus around the monarchy and more so the government. I reckon if people weren't so worried about heating, eating and housing there'd be an appetite for it, but it's going to be in the middle of winter. There'll be no nationwide big meet ups in the pubs and all day drinking like in summer will there? |
Yeah I reckon everyone will sit indoors being boring pr1cks and going over the issues you mention as opposed to having a beer with mates during a WC Imagine even thinking like that

Good point. Yes, but: - Russia has a history of involvement with football (unlike Qatar); - doesn't have Sharia law. So it only persecutes some of its citizens, not 50% of them.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 15:00 - Oct 25 with 1197 views | Sarge | I get completely absorbed by international tournaments and will watch every single game regardless of who is playing or what time of day or night it is. Sadly though this time around I have no idea when it even starts and I couldn’t care less. I’ll watch the first England game whenever that is and we’ll see after that. But it is a sham and a shell of a World Cup. It may as well be sponsored by Papa Johns.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 15:58 - Oct 25 with 1151 views | ITFCson | I think one of the main reasons is it’s mid season. Usually it’s all we look forward to in the off season so there is a big build up of anticipation. I think as soon as the season pauses everything in the media will be ramped up. I am going and I for one cannot wait for a totally unique experience.

Indifference to the World Cup.... on 10:13 - Oct 25 by DinDjarin | For the first time ever in 50 years of being on this planet I have no interest in this world cup. I also have no interest in the current England team. |
This is exactly how I feel. In my opinion Premier League and International football have become something of a circus. It’s all about play acting, VAR controversy and dip sh*t pundits.
