Asylum seekers dumped in Central London on 19:33 - Nov 2 with 3788 views | gtsb1966 | One of the men, a 29-year-old economics student from Iraq, said he had been held at Manston for 21 days after arriving in the UK by boat. “There were so many people there. They gave food, but only a little,” he said. He said he was told on Tuesday afternoon that he was being taken to London. “We were told we should go to our families or friends. I don’t have any family in the UK,” he said. That last sentence is why I question why he has risked his life to cross the channel when he could've sought asylum on the European mainland. I suspect Sunak is just giving her enough rope. Then he can get rid claiming she brought it upon herself.

Could be that he has a decent level of English but has never learned French. Could be that he thinks England will be more likely to offer him a chance to work and contribute Could be that he has been told a bunch of lies by the criminal gangs looking to make money from him.. If there's one thing I have learned in my limited interactions with refugees, it's that they are all individuals and all have individual stories. Much like non refugees really. Of course none of that will stop people questioning them and their motives. But then actually meeting, speaking to and learning about refugees is simply never going to happen for 99% of people. Far easier to just make judgements and assume the worst...

Alongside the BBC, the NHS and the National Trust, the other thing I'm proud about in this country is that since the Reformation we've made refugees and asylum seekers welcome. And aside from that, our badly broken economy currently needs all the workers it can find. Those chicken nuggets don't make themselves you know.

Is it genuine question though? There could be many reasons that someone might want to come here rather than France. Language for instance would be a huge reason. Through sheer luck you've been born in a country where you won't need to flee and that's good for you because if you did need to flee I hope the people at the end of your journey show a lot more empathy, generousity and care than you've seemed to show for others over the last few days. The problem is that by appointing her, he's made the problem much more visible, and had the Mail readers foaming at the mouth. So even if he sacks her, he will be expected to find a solution, and there isn't really a solution which will keep the Mail readers happy.

Sunak had no choice but to appoint Braverman - it was the quid quo pro for helping him into No. 10. But that doesn't mean he is a backer of her faction, especially if their barking madness is going to risk what chance he has of doing a decent job, creating a reasonable impression and maybe even winning the next election.

The real question is what sort of country dehumanises people and is wary of someone able to study economics in a second language. Secondly what drives someone to go through all of the hardship he has to start over on his own half the world away where many people think their genuine question shouldn't have follow ups.

Do you honestly think that everyone who wants to come here is doing so because they are fleeing war and persecution. The ones that are yes let's help but you know, I know and the whole world knows that there are many ,especially young men, who are economic migrants and in no danger at home and are here illegally. If you're happy for them to be here illegally that's your choice but I and many millions of others are not.

Firstly, economic migrants aren't asylum seekers but you keep using the terms interchangeably which is disingenuous. Nobody going through the process is here illegally, they are having their claims assessed. That's another disingenuous statement designed to be emotive. You seem to have missed my point about you and those millions of others you claim to represent being lucky to have been born in a country such as the UK. If you had been born in somewhere less fortunate and wanted to look for something better or to flee actual harm you'd be very upset running into someone like yourself. You've not actually outlined your actually issues with asylum seekers or economic migrants, you could do that although I'm apprehensive to actually see it. SB

"The ones that are yes let's help but you know, I know and the whole world knows that there are many". But this line always crops up doesn't it, no matter the subject. You know, with this but also with people receiving benefits etc: "Yes of course those who are really disabled...". But it's always as an afterthought. Shouldn't it be the other way around? So along the lines of, "Damn straight people who are in need of assistance should be getting it without fail asap" with the caveat, "any non-genuine types can be filtered out after/as we go along." Like in some sort of processing procedure? [Post edited 2 Nov 2022 22:52]

Presumably you'll be voting to get rid of the government that's created this failed system? Around 80% of asylum claims made in the UK are successful - i.e "genuine".

What is an economic migrant? What proportion of economic migrants are in the UK illegally? How much do economic migrants contribute to the UK economy? Why do you wish to demonise economic migrants?

Hopefully you have added a PS to your letter to your local MP. Why is the government so incompetent we are dropping off asylum seekers that don’t have family and friends in the U.K., and telling them to go to family and friends. This is as silly as telling an orphan to go home to their parents. Thanks for holding this government to account and continuing to point out how incompetent they are.
