Whatever happens, I think we can hold our heads high on 20:57 - Dec 10 with 1666 views | Chondzoresk | Second half we have been much better. They don’t look all that great. We will look back at this as a big missed opportunity. Shame. 2 mins left, still time to score.
Whatever happens, I think we can hold our heads high on 20:57 - Dec 10 with 1648 views | FrimleyBlue | I dunno. Think its prime Southgate of England. Do enough up until you really have to shine. But lack something. I don't feel foden has done anything of note Midfield is slow and feel wrong decision on the taker of the 2nd pen. It's a shame. But feel this is another wasted opportunity

I respectfully disagree Frimmers. Who’s been the busier keeper? The French have taken their chance in this 2nd half and we’ve squandered our many chances. We’ve looked the better team and that’s what’s disappointing.

Pickford I think. We had a few chances but so did they. Think they were there to be beaten

Foden was the player the fans were clamouring for though.

My overwhelming emotion is just empathy with Kane and the other senior players that may not get another bite at the cherry. A bit like last time, it's sad to see the band of merry men drift away too soon. I hope and pray for Croatia and Morocco to prevail.

Have a look at the stats, the only one in the French favour is the most important one. I agree, I think the England boys won’t just be disappointed being knocked out, they outplayed the French and were the better team on the whole.

I think that’s harsh on foden. Think he was marked out of this game and France targeted him as a threat. He was alive in the second half and opened space for others.

he was busier, but looked completely comfortable IMO, England didnt look like scoring except from a set piece, be it a penalty, freekick or one of the few corners (thats enough to show how many attacks ended in goal kicks). whereas France always had that well you can have all this possession around our goal, but we can just go down your end string a few passes together and before you can blink youve let Giroud (golden boot holder at the moment) have a free header at goal not once but twice, and he scores and its game over. until Mounts penalty, which without VAR wouldnt have happened, do you think England looked like getting back on terms with France through open play ?
I think we can hold our heads high on 21:22 - Dec 10 with 1331 views | RobTheMonk | It just need a bit more intensity from some of the team. Stones and Maguire are very, very slow at moving the ball forward at times. Kane did his thing of ending up at fullback to collect the ball too. Means there's then no focal point up front so if Saka and Foden do get space to cross, they have no striker to aim for. France always had Giroud playing in and around the penalty box. I thought the midfield in that first half were uncharacteristicly sloppy with the ball (mainly Henderson and Bellignham - thought Rice did well). Compared to Griezeman on the French team who just oozes class. Second half was much better to be fair. Saka and Foden looked like they had been told to run at people more. Ultimately, it's about as England'a way to go out of the tournament as you can get other than losing in a penalty shootout. Semi's will be interesting.

Stuart Pearce had Hugo Lloris as one of his candidates for MoM, that tells you all you need to know. Before Giroud scored, there only looked one team that was winning that game and it certainly wasn’t the French. Think the French will be sitting in that dressing room now thinking they’ve got away with one there. England can be proud of their display, but we need to take our chances when we are on top and be more ruthless, a complaint we have about on our lads most match days on a Saturday afternoon.

Agree - two very classy goals from open play by the French; we had at least a couple of similarly great chances but their keeper was on top form, & he also had a good piece of luck.
