Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... 18:04 - Jan 5 with 4162 views | OriginalMarkyP | ...for Hirst? I'm not against signing him, but where is the evidence he's going to be this deadly striker? I'm not saying it doesn't exist, or he isn't, I'm just interested why we want him so much?

Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 18:06 - Jan 5 with 4123 views | MattinLondon | I do find it strange especially as he’s 23 and had t set the world on fire. But obviously the management team have seen something in him that they like.
Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 18:11 - Jan 5 with 4070 views | homer_123 | We don't really need a 20 goal a season striker. We certainly could use a striker with a better ability to take chances or create for others. Ladapo is 'almost' that player his work off the ball is excellent but his scoring ability is only OK. We are going to be far better served by working with the squad to improve our overall chance conversion rate. We won't be signing a marquee 20 goal a season striker as that will mean a complete change in approach.

Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 18:17 - Jan 5 with 4034 views | RadioOrwell | If Hirst plays for a team that has on occasions 70% possession and is attacking most of the time, he might be the guy to make things happen - for himself or others around him. Also KMK knows more about football than we can ever dream about.
Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 18:22 - Jan 5 with 3990 views | clive_baker | He's a player who has been highly regarded for years to be fair, tipped as a hot prospect in English football, bagged a fair few for England at youth levels and was prolific at youth level for Sheffield Wednesday. Bagged a lot for Leicester u23's as well. He looked sharp for Pompey, especially in the 2nd half of the season once he got going. He scored 10 in his last 13 starts for them, and they weren't even a great side. Tall, can finish, scores different types of goals. Can't really see a downside in taking him on loan, would agree to pay a couple of million straight off the bat might a risk though.

Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 18:28 - Jan 5 with 3909 views | BloomBlue | I don't think he's going to be that natural 20+ goals a season player but I get the impression that McK believes he is that player who will be better at getting into those dangerous positions in the box to potentially score a few. Whereas at the moment we have a tendency of playing nice football up to the 16 yard box but the forwards not creating space, intelligent run.

If we can get him going he will be a solid signing. Thought he played well against us for Pompey at PR last year.

He’s at the right age, right profile for what we want. He’s the type of player who in 18 months and let’s say, 20 goals, will be worth double what we pay for him.

Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 18:58 - Jan 5 with 3598 views | FromReuserWithLove | Maybe we're the right team with the right manager playing the right system for him to shine. He clearly has the attributes KM wants so maybe he'll be a good fit. What a player has done before isn't always a guage. David Johnson II had under 20 career goals before Burley slotted him into our system. Kuqi was mediocre, Alan Lee a journeyman, Daryl Murphy was meh and I'm not sure why we bothered signing Kieffer Moore! Ebanks-Blake however was a goal machine. [Post edited 5 Jan 2023 19:05]

In the hope it includes a permanent option, like his Blackburn deal. Still though, I think I’ll trust McKenna on this one.

Read the rest of the thread ffs, Frimmers. Regardless of whether he signed a new deal at Leicester last summer, they were happy to insert a permanent clause in his deal with Blackburn, which I suspect they’ll do the same with us.

That's my take on his Pompey second half of the season, Pants first half, Then hit a streak Caused a lot of problems for defences pulling them, Made a lot of space for others,
Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 21:19 - Jan 5 with 2943 views | BigCommon | Think just having another striker on board will up the competition, potentially getting more from existing players. I mean atm, Freddy and Jackson both play , regardless. Look at the instant improvement of Evans this season, as soon as Ball got signed to add competition to the MF. I'm not drooling over Hirst. But he would still be a welcome addition, imo. I still think it would be difficult to sign a genuine, guaranteed, upgrade on Ladapo, in a January window. Unless a hell of a lot of stars align. Summer window, bit different imo.
Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 22:13 - Jan 5 with 2797 views | jayessess | Superficially, it'll be because: (a) We reckon he can replicate his most recent patch of form in this division with us. (b) He passes the eye test when we watch how he plays and has that England Youth pedigree. Deeper than that, it'll be because: (c) He probably hits a bunch of underlying metrics we aren't aware of that the recruitment room are there to pick up on. With a bit of (d) We're not convinced that his difficult spells as a fringe player at Championship clubs overrides all the other stuff we think about him. (e) There's not a catalogue where you can go buy a striker guaranteed to score you X amount of goals at a reasonable price with no risk that they might turn out to be pony.

He can do something that none of our strikers can be relied upon to do, namely, score with his head. When we've reached those last ten minutes with upwards of 15 players in the opposition box, and Evans is curling the ball back in our own desperate version of headers and volleys, then our lack of someone who can dominate in the air becomes more glaringly obvious as the clock ticks down.

Can some one tell me why we have such a hard on... on 23:26 - Jan 5 with 2429 views | itfcsuth | Not sure on the Hirst one at all. Didn’t score a goal in his first 3 months at Pompey, didn’t reach 10 goals until the 42 game of the season at Pompey - I suspect Ladapo will better that. KMc clearly rates him, so that is certainly worth a lot - time will tell on this, KMc judgement on players is far far better than mine and would be delighted for him to become our talisman.
