Gotta find players somehow. Pretty sure there's a film with Mark Wallberg that similar to this but for American Football.

It's awful j2 Pay £30 for a trial of which you've not chance of impressing in anyway as the manager already has his squad for next season. It's borderline scamming imo.

It’s 30 quid. Some people would probably happily pay that to go along and have a laugh for the day.

Why the fook would they be holding trials if the squad was already sorted?

No it’s not. If some one is willing to part with £30 for a trial at a decent level then it’s up to them. From a club point of view they get extra revenue and maybe, albeit a very remote maybe, they may get someone decent. There must be a fair few footballers out there who were with Academies but released who may well want to start playing again. This may well represent a chance at that. [Post edited 4 May 2023 11:27]

Because they'll make a pretty sum. If they were genuinely interested in trials for the purpose of finding a gem. They wouldn't be charging. Not at step 3. It's crazy.

It's non league. Managers know what they've got for next season before this one even finishes. They'll have forms signed and undated

All they're probably doing in reality is looking to cover their costs for holding an open trial. Its not the ideal approach if your intent is solely to find talent, as anyone worth signing at that level generally doesn't need to pay for a trial, and many wont. Times are hard for a lot of clubs though.

No. With respect, you’re totally wrong.
Non league wtf moment on 11:32 - May 4 with 2983 views | BseaBlue | What you don't realise is the amount of time wasters that club officials (who are mainly volunteers at this level) get throughout the season from people left, right and centre chancing their arm. This is a good way to filte those that are genuine and want a chance at a good level of football.

Non league wtf moment on 12:01 - May 4 with 2672 views | Zx1988 | It strikes me that the £30 fee is probably a pretty good way to deter the chancers and no-hopers, and try and ensure that those who do sign up have a certain level of talent. As much as you assert that there's no chance of anyone from the trial getting a place on the team, I think that's a bit simplistic. Even if the manager has decided upon his team for next season, he'll know what he's looking for in terms of improvements and I'm sure that if the next Jamie Vardy were to turn up, he wouldn't get turned away because 'sorry, squad's full mate'.

Quite right and until the forms are out, there is no such thing as a done deal in Non-League! It happens every year where a club announces a player before the forms are out only for another club to announce them the following month!

Unfortunately it wouldn't filter out the chancers as much as they hope as these chancers are desperate to be seen so they'll pay what ever and that's why they are charging. They know they'll make a pretty penny whilst just being able to say sorry you should be looking at 2 levels below you. And of course I appreciate the comment about finding an actual gem. But you can do that via free trials anyway. Rumour is they're going to change their statement later and change it back to being a free trial which is sensible.

Clubs at that level don't have endless cash to bring in coaches for however many days, facilities, recording of players to go back over etc. They're a business and entitled not to lose money by doing so. Parents take their kids all over the place for trials, £30 to cover club costs is peanuts. I've driven to London, paid for hotel for a night, paid £15 to watch and a £15 entry fee for my son to race for less than 30 seconds. You think people won't be lined up to have a go and happy to pay £30 then you're deluded. It's an opportunity. Structured, no need to be lucky being spotted in right place at right time.
