I know it’s twitter so it’s crap but Palace are one of a few teams that worry me

This is clear Tosh.

Meanwhile the Daily Mail is actually reporting that Hodgson is about to sign a deal for another year.

If KM is true to his beliefs that he's on a certain development path in management there is no reason to move on. Even for a bigger club. To many managers move on to find themselves without a job in 6 months when it goes wrong.

With the potential the club has.. imo there is 0 reason for KM to want to leave.

Having said that. If he's desperate to manage high level and throw away his book on developing in stages, then nothing we can do about it when the big clubs come calling.

a niche perspective

As much as we don't want to hear it, if he gets offered a job at a relatively stable Premier League club like Palace, it'll be tough for him to turn down.

Not one that worry me. Could pay him a bit more maybe but I think McKenna's ambitions are more football tha. Financial.

He joins Palace and then what. Good midtable finish and becomes another man to do a decent job with palace but there is nowhere to go with them really.

With us he can continue to impress and realistically another promotion on his CV before he's 40. He can then manage us in Prem and likely put himself in window for bigger jobs with that progress on CV.

Indo think he'd leave us but only for a club in Prem or champ with deep pockets and more potential than us.

'More football than financial' is a good way to put it. Non-mercenary is another. I get the impression McKenna is one of those people for whom the job is more important than bumping up the salary (so long as the salary is decent, which it clearly is here). There's a subset of people who can never understand this.

Not so sure. If we keep progressing and show ambition I think he’ll be with us for a while. Also got a young family he’s just moved here, not sure he’d want to disrupt that.

It would be a good move for him. Chance to test himself in a mid table Prem team, if he can get them punching higher would give him a great chance of moving to one of the big clubs.

*Not that I think CP will move for him, they've had their fingers burnt with a minimal experienced manager.

I expect he'll end up at one of the big clubs eventually, but if he hasn't already got us into a similar position, I think someone like Brentford or Brighton would be the next stepping stone. A club who knows what they want to do, who know they'll have to give him time, rather than most of them (Palace included) who will likely pull the trigger at the first sign of trouble.

We'll be in the same place as Palace before too long, and suspect he'd like to be the man to get us there so not too concerned about it.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

I don't see him going anywhere while things are going well here. Why go to a mid-table Prem club when you're already building your own statue here. If things go to plan we'll be giving Palace a hiding at Selhurst in a couple of years.
Seriously, he's in a dream job here. Great support both fans and financial. I can't imagine what it would take to lure him from here outside maybe the Man U job.

in fact, Palace have never won anything - best finish in top tier is 3rd, runners up in FA Cup twice. Then it's tier 2 stuff.
We are way bigger than Palace - rich history and now the ownership to leverage that history and rebuild the club, we will wave at Palace on the way past.
McKenna will leave us one day, but it will either be for one of the big 5 or for the England job.

Everything is relative, but next season will be their 10th in the Premier League and they've finished mid-table to lower mid-table in most of them.

The only appeal of Palace is youth set-up and their ultras… on 11:00 - May 20 with 2908 viewsunstableblue

… other than that it’s a smaller club, smaller fan base, lesser history, inferior ground, less a footballing area

I’m convinced - just because McKenna is so savvy - that he’ll use Town as a perfect development project for his managerial skills, and critically his young family are settling into Ipswich and Suffolk

He’s young… he had coaching experience but is only 1.5 seasons into management… that’s nothing… he’s only 37…

He’ll be wanting to incrementally test himself - and a championship campaign with his players is the perfect next step

I imagine his plan is at least 2-3 more seasons with Town… test in the championship try and build a Premiership promotion and team… get a further success under his belt that League One promotion… then start to think

He’s only really faced one ‘crisis’ around February… which he handled very well. He’ll want to test himself again in a supportive club and fan environment.

BUT… and this is the big BUT… if he mounts a positive campaign in the championship… then I’d suggest the interest and offers from premier clubs will ramp up significantly

My guess is he’s only going to a club that is ‘bigger’ than Ipswich… and that is less clubs that you realise… for example palace, Leicester, wolves, Brighton, wouldn’t come close

Poll: How do you rate the new home kit out of 5?

McKenna link to Palace on 12:10 - May 20 with 2836 viewsDarth_Koont

I’m sure McKenna has unfinished business with this squad. And a crack at the Championship with the opportunity to add to the squad will be difficult to turn down.

But ... seeing what it took to get out of League One means he’ll also be under no illusions about the difficulty of taking the next big step and getting out of the Championship.

McKenna’s ambition will be to coach at the highest level. Not to take Ipswich to its highest level per se. Hopefully, we can keep up with and share that ambition for a couple of seasons by which time we’re in the Prem ourselves. But I think that there’s a shortish shelf-life on the idea that he’s going to stay with us rather than take a bigger job if and when the opportunity comes along.
