Put something like this together a few weeks back and Aluko re-signing has scuppered my list! I enjoy his cameos but can’t help think his output (in league one no less) feels like a bit of a wasted squad position.
I hadn’t included Ahadme in mine which would take it to 26. Interesting as to who will be cut assuming we bring in another 2/3 players. Personally think we need another 2 strikers.
Wonder if we’ll look to replace Hayes with a younger 3rd choice so we don’t need to register him. |  |

I'd be quite surprised if Ladapo goes. Scored a lot last season. Scored a decent number (9) in a struggling Championship team with Rotherham. Well integrated with the squad. Does a good job of holding the ball up for other attacking players.

Totally agree re Aluko, seems a strange one still but guess we'll see how that plays out
With Hayes, the tough part is you have to buy n U21 keeper as any loans would still count against it, and if you do that (unless they are very young but still ready) you likely hit the same problem next season | |

Or even loan Hayes out so that he gets first team experience in a lower league but stays on our books - as keepers often mature later than outfield players and can become top class only in their thirties. |  |

Aluko really did surprise me. He showed his quality at times when he played, but his numbers aren't great and he didn't make a match day squad since Bristol Rovers away on 14th Feb where I thought he was particularly poor (as was Harness). Seemed like he had been phased out so was really surprised to see him stay. I understand the logic of his influence and experience, but when your squad places are limited it's bold to use one on him. Maybe he doesn't get registered and he's used more as a player / coach hybrid role with him playing for the U23's. I guess that's possible.
As Joe says unless we move a couple of those senior players on there will be a decision to make on some of them. [Post edited 27 Jun 2023 9:54]

While Ahadme and Camara were at training yesterday, I cannot see them being part of the 25 man squad for the first half of the season. Nor Baggott and Humphreys albeit these do not count in the numbers as they are U21s.
My prediction is three more seniors to come in: left sided CB, a number 9 and a hybrid attacking midfielder/striker.
Which means that along with Ahadme and Camara, one more of the current squad will miss out. I would not be surprised if that is Harness. | | | |

I did think the same re using Aluko in that role, similar in a way to how Man U in recent years have had McShane and Huddlestone I’d just be surprised if Aluko was happy to do it rather than get another couple of years first team football.

I would too Guthers. Unless we sign 2 forwards and there's interest in Freddie, then we might be tempted to cash in, but I wouldn't see him as a player we proactively look to sell right now. He really improved through last season and his contribution seems to be underappreciated. We were crying out for a 20 goal a season forward and he scored 21. 17 in the league in a season where opportunities were limited. He averaged 0.7 goals per 90 minutes which was 2nd only to McGoldrick.
I still think his goal at the Valley was one of the best of the season. The shift and finish into the bottom corner deserved to win that game. Overshadowed by the freakish events that followed. | | | |

We must be looking at sending Camara out for 6 months at least to get some game time. Same with Ahadme if we're not looking at selling him outright. Hladky looks very comfortable here as a Number 2 so I think he will stay. No one is going to come in for Evans and offer him a decent contract, so he is staying.

As regards cashing in, I think any of our players may be vulnerable if a sufficiently large offer came in (say £10m+ for Chaplin from a Prem club). Tho only if it gave significant funds to secure a replacement - and someone suitable was available. I doubt we could or would resist any thing like that. | |

See I thought the same about Jackson but then you look at that list of players in W/AM and the two weakest there are Jackson and Aluko.
And I thought Aluko would be the obvious one off but I'm guessing he's being kept around for his experience rather than playing ability. I'd rather keep Jackson between the two but past them, Harness is probably the next you could see going but it seems unlikely.

I think CM, W/AM and ST are going to get a huge overhaul. Morsy, Taylor, Luongo, Burns, Chaplin, Broadhead the only ones I'd guarantee are in the 25. I'm convinced there must be some agreement with Aluko he's here in a non first team playing capacity. | | | |

I would say that Jackson and Aluko have attributes which are more useful to us in the Championship than they were in League one as displayed by their performances against Burnley in the FA Cup. Which people are overlooking. Such as Aluko's ability to hold the ball and link play and Jackson's pace against higher defensive lines are likely to be more important to us than say whatever it is that Harness offers at the moment, now the goals have dried up. | | | |
