That seems highly optimistic given how the market has gone thus far and what they allegedly wanted from Blackburn.

Would be amazing business if achieved of course.

What's happened in the market thus far to justify more than £2m up front for a player who's scored 0 Championship goals in 41 appearances?

The amounts being asked for players has been high as Ashton seems to have indicated.

The buy clause for Blackburn was rumoured to be 5m+.

The board in general has spent days saying how expensive Championship strikers are and now apparently 2m is the going rate.

We will see, amazing business at that level but I would be surprised.

For me. What they asked Blackburn was a fee for a then prem player ( granted no appearences in it)

A striker from one champ club to another.. I just can't see how they could ask for more personally.

I'll probably be wrong tho. But that's my guess with this one.

Can't imagine it being that high in a month of Sundays

£2m-£2.5m max + add ons

The market has changed but not that much

Can you outline what that is based on?

It's no more than we paid for Broadhead whilst a League One side and this is a Champ side buying a striker.

Would be a cracking deal at that price.

His true cash value is probably about £950k with potential for an add on.

In todays climate though and knowing the position we are in, they can push for £2.5m total package.

He didn't feature in either half yesterday for Leicester which makes me think he was probably here having medical (that last piece is wishful thinking).

The same Broadhead who had performed well in the Championship (with a poor team) and had been in and around the Welsh national squad.

Same price seems fair.

950k?

You can't buy a League One striker whilst in League One for that much. We wouldn't sell Ladapo for that much, we got 500k+ for Simpson.

We don't get a discount just because we are Ipswich.

I obviously hope I am wrong of course.

3m plus top ups would be my guess, he's got one year less on his deal and had a disappointing spell at Blackburn since that valuation. Appreciate he had a decent spell here but again was in League One.

Presumably that means Blackpool get Pigott? Or am I taking your circle metaphor too literally?

Phil reported that the club thought £3.5m was a lot for Ellis Simms (and Coventry seem to have ended up paying that up front, with add ons on top of that). Simms, who played a bit of Premier League football, got 7 goals in 17 apps for Sunderland and is a couple of years younger than Hirst.

Don't think it's a big stretch that Hirst would cost a bit more than half of that up front?

The buy clause for Blackburn would've been to reflect a situation where his Championship loan went well rather than badly.

Who is prepared to spend even £2m on him besides ourselves? Leicester aren't prepared to play him in even their Championship team.

We missed out on Simms, maybe Ashton has started to get desperate, if yes he'll have to overpay, 4million I'm guessing.
