They just keep on giving. 16:00 - Jul 12 with 7284 viewsMercian

Ukraine are fighting Russia on their own soil and in doing so they are highlighting Russian weakesses and more importantly stopping the war from expanding west and escalating into a much bigger and deadly conflict. The Defence Secretary Ben Wallace recognises this and wants gratitude shown. To us that is for allowing The Ukraine to take the brunt of Putin. This whole government are a bunch of men's private parts.

It's not terrible advice though is it? I get your point but he's not wrong when it comes to some of the less willing countries/politicians.

Of course it must be very hard to strike the right balance between gratitude and desperation for more weapons.

Truly impaired.

I am no fan of the Tories, but I think he is right on this, NATO have put billions into arming Ukraine, and to put your parts on that there is no timescale for NATO membership doesn’t come across well, particularly as we have to tread a very fine line diplomatically with Russias finger hovering over the big red button.

I'm really not sure what you want Wallace to do here?
Send British troops in and escalate the war?

Russia is a country with a population of 147m, they've got about 300k in Ukraine right now, they really haven't thrown everything at it, and hopefully, they won't.

We've got to be careful how much we supply.

I support the assistance to Ukraine but Ben Wallace is 100% correct.

“We are not Amazon”. Spot on.

…..and let’s not forget, Ukraine were / are no angels.

……and also, we have kind of reneged on no NATO expansion.

We also allowed Ukraine to dismantle their massive nuclear arsenal as part of a back room deal.

The whole situation is much more complicated than some TW4TD waffle about the Tories.

Beggars belief really.

Edit. The way Wallace has been shafted by Biden to be NATO big boss is bloody ridiculous, there were reports that the old fool wanted Ursula whatsername, completely not researching that she was the most useless military strategist in Germany since the end days of Hitler.

Biden has done more in his time to sour USA / U.K. relationships in a couple of years that anyone in history, mainly because of his so called Irish heritage - and he hates Wallace because he served in NI

Thankfully Biden is a puppet and the real line of “special relationship” is both our intelligence services who are almost definitely the best on the planet and they are as close as feck.

There's more to it than that though. Wallace stiffed Biden by backing the F16 commitment to Ukraine - against the USA's position.

As you say, there is a huge amount of complexity at play here but when Boris and co have literally trashed our international reputation, there are very few nations left who see us as the grown up in the room. These blows will keep coming, our street cred is on the floor.

My point is that Ukriane is fighting Russia therefore we do not have to eg a proxy war. If Russia had walked them other then NATO countries would have been under serious threat and we would have been obliged to go in hot. It may have cost us £billions but in this scenario it would have cost more £billions plus thousands of dead British Soldiers in an already depleted army.

I don't disagree, though I am unconvinced he would use nukes if it was just defending Ukraine.

But to see they need to show more gratitude was a stupid crass comment. I get what he meant, but the wording was awful.

He seems happier today now he’s been allowed to sit at the NATO table. Does anyone know/remember if Ukraine sought NATO membership after Putin invaded Crimea, or has it only become an issue for them since the more recent invasion?

Most of Africa is a basket case and it’s been raped by China and Russia.

Plus - you have gone off on a tangent.

I don’t want to appear rude but I’m sick to death of misinformation

You imply no one listens to us and your tones suggest you think it’s because of Brexit. I am certainly no Brexiteer but it’s plain that some of Europe (particularly the French) want to screw us and gain the upper hand, ironically France is burning and Germany is coming to a bit of a dead end.

The real power in Europe is shifting to Poland and absolutely fair play to them, they have played the quiet man but they have got everything in place, in fact they have played a fantastic hand.

Finally, FVEY has more of a hold on world “Wot not” than anything and anyone - and we are at the forefront and always have been.

Presidents and Prime Ministers come and go but FVEY are always controlling things. Do you really think we let the likes of Liz Truss have a real say in global affairs??

Edit: Who do you think called an end to the riots? Genuine question.

It wasn’t the police and it certainly wasn’t Macron.

Misinformation? I haven't mentioned Brexit at all - you've gone off on the tangent! I was merely pointing to one case that has damaged our reputation and which has real consequences for global support for our action with regard to Ukraine.

I'm talking about real international diplomacy - where alliances are made and back scratching takes place. We simply aren't the player we used to be. One interview I dragged up.

https://www.thenational.scot/news/23525240.ex-foreign-office-chief-says-uk-end-g

Blair and Iraq/ Afghanistan have also had a major impact but with regard to Truss, it's exactly the lack of meaningful activity and substance that offended other nations, the same with Johnson's disastrous time at the FCO. P1ss off your counterpart and their entourage (whether they're a basket case or not) and it's hard to do business.

I know you didn’t mention Brexit but to say you never implied it is disingenuous.

I genuinely wasn't thinking of Brexit and certainly never meant to imply it - that's nothing more than your interpretation and a couple of assumptions.

My viewpoint comes from a range of reading e.g. the book I mentioned, podcasts from reliable sources e.g. Battleground Ukraine and working in a global organisation with strong diplomatic ties. Sorry for not having a PhD in whatever corner of global affairs you're an expert in.

You clearly aren't up for a debate on it and yet decided to accuse me of misinformation and 'total boll0cks', I needed to respond. Have a good evening.

Appreciate your reply, thanks.

Yes, I am having a good day, it’s 40c where I am, although it’s late.

One thing, you never answered who you thought was instrumental in stopping the riots in France.

Answer - it was the drug cartel, it was affecting their trade. They literally instructed the gangs to stop. French city’s are pretty much controlled by Drug Co.

If we had half the devastation that France just had, TW4TD would also have been on fire.

Africa, ah yes. The UK is not receiving any debt payments or interest from it's own'raouing of Africa..... apart from thenhuge sums it does receive.Your guff about Germany and France reads as some twisted Farage rant.

As to Poland's growth some might point to its low starting point and that its recent progress is due to it being part of possibly the worlds wealthiest free trade zone. Imagine being so stupid as to want to opt out of that.

Your persistent denials about not being a brexiter smack of ''methinks the laddie doth protest too loudly"
