Venus was.good. I think we sold Steve Sedgley for him and got the better deal.

Would you rather a prime Venus or a prime Herman to fill our current LCB void, Gav? Venus had the better left foot: the only CB I've known to take corners, and from memory they were incredible. Herman was more mobile and better at dribbling. Plus he jumped into the North Stand when he hadn't scored that time. Venus for me, for almost purely emotional reasons.

Herman I think. And while we're at it, Kuqi would love to play in this team.

We certainly did. I think we got £270k plus Venus for Sedgley. What a deal! Robbery. Venus was absolutely immense for us and was a better player than Cundy. Good in the air, thunderous left foot, could tackle and was never going to be messed about by anyone. Good team player too. I thought he’d be a waste of space. Shows what I know.
Cundy or De Vos on 18:29 - Jul 25 with 2967 views | ketton_itfc | De Vos no brainer. If ever there was a Town player it was JDV. Shame we couldn't have got him when he was younger, thought we might when I think he was at Dundee United and Butch was his coach. [Post edited 25 Jul 2023 20:51]

Venus took a mean free kick too. What's he doing these days? Edit. Sunderland assistant manager

Cundy, of the two. DV was a leader, but not a great footballer and certainly not the type we need to play how mckenna wants.

Exactly. JDV was a superb stopper centre half, great at dealing with long ball dross. However, not one who wanted the ball at his feet so I doubt he would be a Championship player these days in a decent side.

Think I would go with Cundy in the battle of the Jason's, think he was better on the ball and probably better fit for our team in that regard. JDV was great for us though, absolute rock.

Yes, Alex Notman received a career ending injury when his foot was on the wrong end of a Venus free kick. to add insult to injury, Notman had broken early from the wall in an attempt to block the free kick so he received a yellow card while on a stretcher. If you take away the Norwich connection, rather sad that a 23 year old had his career ended by a freak accident.

How dare you, sir. I am 7 years older than Cundy, who is 4 years older than de Vos, and I'm still ready for the call.
Cundy or De Vos on 06:09 - Jul 26 with 2409 views | IPS_wich | JDV's turning circle was slower than Burgess was 12 months ago; so with the game having gone more down the pace route then it would have to be Cundy. But JDV was one in a long line of tall centre backs we've had who were imperious in the air (Beattie, Butcher, Linighan, Mowbray, JDV). Please don't think I'm suggesting that Linighan and De Vos were anywhere near the players of the other three in any aspect other than in the air. One of the things that I think Richard Naylor never got enough credit for was how quick he was. In many ways he was the perfect CB partner for De Vos and helped compensate for JDV's deficiencies.
