Hopefully not 'look at me', certainly not intentionally, I just wanted to wish everyone on here all the best over the coming weeks, which will no doubt be challenging. Goodness knows what they'll bring, but I know if people stick together and look out for one another it'll be a damn sight easier to handle. This place is a great outlet for that and a wonderful resource for Town fans and non to come together, keep up the great work.
Everyone needs to remember that it's perfectly acceptable not to agree on things, it doesn't make someone a bad person.
I, like many, have found recent days tough, and I can sense when I'm not the best version of myself. I'm going to take a little social media hiatus but I'll be back when the football returns.
All the best to you all in the meantime.

Speaking as a former Parliamentary drafter (note drafter not draftsman), gender-neutral drafting has been used for some time in legislation, and predates current controversies about gender identity and the like.
In legal writing, masculine language has traditionally been used to refer to people regardless of their gender. Examples include the use of masculine pronouns (he/him) and nouns such as chairman.
The practice for legislation changed in 2007, and in fact pre-dated that in the office I worked in. Since then, it has been government policy to write legislation in gender-neutral language.
If you are interested, the following s a link to guidance on gender-neutral drafting which includes three basic ways to avoid gender-specific pronouns, which are illustrated with examples:.
repeat the noun (for example, “a person is entitled to a benefit if the person...”);
change the pronoun (for example, by using “they” or “their” in the singular: “a person fails to comply with their duty...”);
rewrite to avoid the need for a pronoun (for example, “It is an offence for a person to...”, rather than “A person commits an offence if he...”).

We exchanged some friendly PMs last summer, he said he was OK & had moved 7 months previously to a house with a larger plot for veg growing.
Then same again a few months later in Dec. '22. He wasn't happy with certain aspects of the forum, incl. a couple of people posting on it.

i'm not sure how my comment is "bogged down in culture wars"? very strange.
i think there needs to be a new internet law to match godwin's law - the first person to use the phase 'culture war' is always the person fighting the 'culture war'.
is she actually arguing for a 'ban' on gender-neutral toilets? i thought she was saying that new public buildings needed to include sex segregated toilets as well as anything else they may provide - a positive duty to include rather than any ban. the examples you give of single cubicles seem entirely right as they are and I'm sure she's not proposing to change trains etc. | |
