Anyone able to enlighten me? Seen mentioned a few times it got very close?

Just how close do we know?

Poll: England v Wales Score

I said on here a few weeks back the story was kept under wraps. I know for a fact how close it was but wouldn't say while McKenna is there as it isn’t fair.

Suffice to say it was far closer than the Brighton United or Chelsea stuff got though.

Today is a brilliant day for our club

Edit - Now Phil has mentioned it publicly, I feel it is ok to say what I know.

Seeing as you’ve mentioned it publicly, can I elaborate as to the Crystal Palace situation? Asides from a few PMs, I’ve been biting my tongue for ages about it haha..

For 12 hours in February McKenna had actually agreed to join. Everything was done and dusted other than the fee palace would give us. The rest was completely sewn up. Then late in the evening McKenna contacted Crystal Palace to say that he was doing a u-turn because he believed that ‘the project wasn’t complete’ at Ipswich. But for 12 hours he was genuinely a gonner. That’s how close it got.

Nothing formally made public. But it seems significantly closer than we realised at the time

It wasn't close, I have a contact at Palace and it wasn't close. Palace got their no.1 target.
They never spoke with him officially, you would know if they had because it would have been leaked to the press that Palace had officially asked to speak with him.

From what I gather, it was pretty much as close as it gets.

McKenna verbally agreed to go and was all set to. Rommy is spot on and I assume he’s got that from a completely different place to me, likewise Phil.

I wonder if there's a jpg of him holding a Palace scarf up sitting in someone's Recycle Bin at Selhurst Park.

I don't think it quite reached the scarf holding stage, but not too far off.

Begs the question though as to why it got that close if he knew the project wasn't finished.

Wow, scary stuff. It reminds me of the time I accepted a job offer but then decided to stay where I was. The HR lady sent me an email asking why I had changed my mind. Felt really bad about it and felt like I'd messed them about.

I did that with Andy's Records once. Decided to go to university instead.

Palace? What the hell was he thinking?

There’s no loyalty in football but it’s disappointing to hear he was willing to leave this project in February. And again (potentially) in May.

Well, in this case their clearly is, as he didn't and hasn't this time. Fair play to him to hear out options from other clubs but clearly what he has built in terms of relationships with the owners, mgmt and fans is very important to him. Thank god.

Ouch.

I have been instructed to say publicly that Phil Ham would not have caused the eventual decline of said record emporium. Furthermore, any suggestion that he would be responsible for that through the disappearance of numerous half man half biscuit cds is scurrilous and unfounded speculation and should be treated as such.

If you copy and paste that, I’ll not ban you this time.

Just rejoice in the fact he is still here.
