The leadership, the bravery to step up and take his penalty after missing his earlier one. Compared to past performances , this one wasn’t great at all, but he still delivered.

Arguably one of the greatest ever players - in an age where almost every single match of his senior career has been televised, his performances have been consistently world class. Compared to previous decades where players could have off-days and not have glare of a worldwide audience watching them.

One of the greatest ever players - well done Ronaldo.

"in an age where almost every single match of his senior career has been televised" - it's what he craves and what drives him, being the centre of attention. I think he'll struggle mentally when he is forced to retire, and I do think he'll have to be forced as he won't quit. He'll want to hold the record for the oldest player to score for Portugal, no doubt.

He does a huge amount of charity work - the total prick.

But I was just commenting on his footballing ability and career. Not sure making personal comments like that adds to the discussion.

I find an awful lot of what he has done, and the way he carries himself as prick worthy. My opinion is valid. And that negates some of his ability for me.

he's struggling with his mental health now, do people not get what they just saw happen on television ?

maybe we need to watch that Norwich video about mental health again to remember.

Delivered? Other than scoring a pen in the shoot-out he fluffed his lines every time tonight. I enjoyed the entertainment of it all, but if you look it objectively he did everything but deliver.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

He was in tears about missing a pen, I hardly think we're in a position to take it from that that "he's struggling with his mental health now."

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I was surprised he didn’t try to take the 3rd pen as well.
And he never ripped his shirt off when he scored.
I reckon there’s the makings of a team player in there somewhere.

That could be very true, it may not but that’s the thing we don’t know. That’s why I’m most surprised on this thread at Ronaldo being called a prick by someone who has had their own personal battles.

Ronaldo hasn’t done a lot wrong other than be a bit narcissistic. Fair enough if people don’t like him for that but it’s not like he’s a John Terry and shagged a pals wife. If you don’t like him fair enough, but why does he get abuse from so many out there’s, guess it’s jealousy.

Plenty I don’t like about Ronaldo and his tears tonight were a bit embarrassing but his charity work, devotion to family, his professionalism and the way he strives to keep him self fit let alone his football ability deserve respect I think.

Probably as a case study, much like Jimmy Anderson in Cricket, he's set a new standard for looking after the body as a professional athlete in football

He has his own fitness team who travel with him for example

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Indeed. You make an excellent point in that it would be really interesting to compare Anderson and Ronaldo in terms of longevity in the profession they excel at the highest level. Do they share the same lifestyle traits and training regimes or differ markedly. It would be interesting to know.

It’s remarkable because they seem so far outside the norm in terms of longevity.

Ronaldo having his own team is really interesting, yet he gets knocked for it as again being a narcissist/ pre Madonna etc. but something is working for him. He can still leap for the ball higher than anyone on a football pitch aged 39. Remarkable. As as athlete at their level he and Anderson appear to be complete outliers.

Yes, Ronaldo is an angel.

He never slapped the phone out of a child’s hand at Goodison…

Controversy just follows him around for no reason.
