Southgate the best England manager of all time? 23:00 - Jul 10 with 2656 views | Wallingford_Boy | Stats back it up. Sir Bob didn’t win when he arguably had the best team ever, plus his win ratio is poor. Ramsey? Maybe.. but again, poor win ratio. I know you lot love a moan, but finally you may have to admit.. he’s pretty good!

Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 23:05 - Jul 10 with 2384 views | BloomBlue | International football is about winning tournaments, win ratio is irrelevant if you don't win tournaments. Sir Alf is the best
Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 23:06 - Jul 10 with 2373 views | Europablue | I guess it is all about the win ratio than winning the important matches. No-one can overtake Ramsey without winning a world cup.

Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 23:11 - Jul 10 with 2341 views | Vaughan8 | Suppose it's difficult to compare. These tournaments have been watered down since the older managers. Sir alfs major tournament ratio is 8/12 so 66% apparently.

He's one of the most successful without being successful for sure. I think it goes a bit deeper than stats. Crouchy had I think 22 goals in 40 games for England. One of England's greatest strikers? No chance. But figures aren't to shabby.

Haven't we been lucky for quite a few of these games? While I agree his been decent overall, he definitely doesn't overtake a world cup winner.

It's all a bit distorted by the fact that a) England play lots of Friendlies and b) nowadays you get at least 6 easy qualifiers against small nations. In Sir Alf's day we didn't have to qualify for 1966 or 1970, and in 1974 we're in qualfying group of 3.

Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 23:26 - Jul 10 with 2185 views | Vegtablue | Anybody who claims our squad is no better than the Dutch, Slovakia's, Switzerland's, Denmark's, Slovenia's, Ukraine's, Sweden's, Colombia's, Italy's, Croatia's, one or two others I've forgotten, is kidding themselves. We are blessed with overspilling talent and a very generous draw, such that we've made par by getting to Sunday. Gareth has never delivered better than par for us, but this is now his chance again to go one better. Spain are our equal. Best of luck Gareth, may the Gods continue to be with you.
Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 23:51 - Jul 10 with 2092 views | Bluemer | All I can add to this is that in the first 48 years of my life I'd seen England play in two semi finals, 1990 and 1996, that's it. Since Southgate I've seen three semi finals and now two finals ! Edit, typo [Post edited 10 Jul 2024 23:55]

Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 04:52 - Jul 11 with 1826 views | MK1 | If you are going on win ration alone, then the correct answer is Sam Allardyce. 100% win ratio. Sir Alf is still number 1.

Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 05:28 - Jul 11 with 1798 views | franz_tyson | If he's the best manager statistically and its all that matters.... then no need to watch the match. Just get the results by Ceefax. Last night I'd give Gareth 8/10 and you have to give loads of credit for the subs.... but usually his in-game management is awful. That second half it looked as if Koeman was getting the upper-hand with tactics and it took until the 75th minute for him to make changes. Think individual brilliance has got us over the line.... not Gareth.
Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 05:51 - Jul 11 with 1774 views | Benters | That’s the trouble with the modern football fan,not only do they want to win, they want to be entertained too. Yes England for a lot of the time have been boring to watch, but they are in the final,so Southgate must be doing something right I guess!

He can't surpass Sir Alf until he delivers a World Cup. In fact, he's won sod all as yet.

Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 07:26 - Jul 11 with 1568 views | woodbridge_blue | As well as winning the World Cup, Sir Alf also reached a World Cup quarter final, and a Euro semi-final and quarter final. Still ahead of Southgate, even if we win on Sunday.
Southgate the best England manager of all time? on 07:49 - Jul 11 with 1503 views | wkj | Would you rather... Win 1 world cup and then fail to qualify for the next two or Reach the finals of those 3 world cups and fail to win To be considered the greatest, you have to put that name on the Trophy. Otherwise you're following the 'Norwich Logic' of success
