Lords has to be the most boring crowd in any sport on 12:19 - Jul 12 with 1717 views | giant_stow | Think it depends on the occasion really. I was there the day of the denmark game for a 20/20 and it was more like an open air 20,000 person boozer that evening, with the cricket completely incidental... barely noticed by most.

A balance of both respect for Test cricket and a fun atmos is entirely possible - try going to a Test at Headingley - recommend sitting in the West Stand to combine enjoying both a bit of a party + serious attention to the game.

The Western Terrace used to be somewhat lively - ask any opposition player unfortunate enough to find themselves fielding on the boundary. But as you say people knew the game. It's a bit more sanitised now and less fun with a younger daytripper crowd doing beer snakes.

The only 'sanitisation' I've seen is from over-zealous stewards confiscating inflatables. And the crowd I (as a 50+, 60+ and now 70+) have sat amongst there have been far from "daytrippers" - they know their stuff.
