Yesterday, we were the 9th highest transfer spenders in Europe 13:55 - Jul 17 with 2025 viewsghostofescobar

With the likes of Spurs, Man U and Real Madrid pitifully trailing in our wake. I know it's early days, and by the end of the transfer window it will obviously be a completely different picture, but our current spending still seems like it's happening to someone else to me. It still seems completely surreal. What are we on now, nearly £60mill or something? £60mill!! There is a part of me that still finds this all a bit scary and not "Ipswich" at all. I mean, I love it, but it does leave me feeling a bit squiffy and discombobulated.

We need £100 million spending. Then we need to go again in Jan when we will have learned more about who is able to handle the level.

Réal Madrid have made one signing that cost them €150 million euros in just the signing on bonus - so Town’s job lot of mercenaries doesn’t quite add up to that just yet.

Not much enthusiasm for the flow of home-grown talent coming through the academy on here any more.

Given the rapid rise of the first team over the last couple of years - who would you say is up to Prem standard from our Tier 2 setup?

I still have that moment of disbelief every time I see Town listed under Premier League.

Signing a keeper for £8m and it not feeling like that big a fee is crazy.

Truly impaired.

I think its also pretty common knowledge that Evans' years of under-investment in the Academy has left us miles behind our competitors, so it will take some time before Gamechanger can see any rewards of their improvements.

The franchise made it very clear that they weren’t interested in the academy when they took over. That was something of a tongue in cheek comment. McKenna isn’t interested in young player development whatsoever - somewhat curious given his background but he’s just won the lottery followed by the script and will jump ship before it becomes a problem. …. If it isn’t a problem already

You wont reply, but show your workings for how the academy doesn't interest the owners of the team that everyone here but you and Ullah supports. Not calling you a budgie, but a town fan you are not.

Maybe have a cheeky hand shandy if you're interested in trying other things that nobody else wants to see.

I had to read your last paragraph a few times. But i think you are saying the lack of youth development is a problem. Not sure it is. We have a couple in Baggott and Humphries that might make it. Beyond that we are going to cat 1 academy, which shows intent. Also, how many clubs in the PL rely on youth development? Hardly any.

You've kinda dodged the question.

The issue with our Tier 2 Academy is that it's been chronically underfunded by Evans. Since GC have taken over, there has been significant investment in the Academy but, as you well know, it's not likely to bear fruit for a little while yet.

So, of the current crop, can you name anyone you'd play in the Prem?

As for the comment regarding KM, not exactly sure I would agree.

The very clear and obvious example is Hutch, who KM and his wider team really helped develop. He's also developed Davis, Burns, Chappers, Broady as well. These are not 'old' players but to suggest KM isn't interest in young player development is categorially wrong. Development of players is a two fold process for KM and the Club. Obviously in the first instance to make us a better team but also to ensure that our players have re-sale value as well.

It's a very odd and incorrect take you have on this.

You can add Slicker to that list of younger players that Gamechanger, Ashton and McKenna have brought to the club with a view of improving them to compete for a first team place.
