I don't have any issue with this. Carsley has had the U21's playing some nice stuff by all accounts, he'll know plenty of the younger players in the squad and will know who's ready to move up from below too.
A lot of people made the same kind of noises as the OP when Southgate moved into the top position as an interim manager. I think most of those have egg on their faces now! |  | | |

Sounds a sensible appointment to me. Consistency, stability, but there’s enough different about the way he likes football to be played to add the potential of some excitement. Guess it could be his job permanently if he does well. We do sometimes get blinded by the personality rather than other merits, such as capability and suitability, and taking a bit of a gamble. |  |

Without wanting to be too cynical, it does feel as if there's an element of Carsley already being in with the FA at play.
Why would the FA risk hiring someone who'd very much want to be their own man, when they can bring up someone from the age-group setup, who already knows how things work and who's in charge? |  |
