Amex Stadium…. 22:13 - Sep 14 with 7702 viewsITFC_Forever

Is a nice enough ground in itself ….. but an absolute pain in the backside to get to.

We left Ipswich at 10.30 and thought that was more than enough time, got stuck on the M25, M23 and the road to Lewes. Lewes is too small a town to cope with thousands of football fans descending on it, so it took ages to park.

Finally got in the away end at 2.45…

That’s what happens when you build a football stadium in the middle of nowhere and then tell people they can’t park there… you transfer the traffic problem to somewhere else that also can’t cope.

The two ends behind each goal look tinpot, especially the away end. Should be two tiers

Agreed left at 10.15 and got into lewes at 1.45. Struggle to park. Found a school car park near Station. Got train at 2.25. Got back to lewes at 6.15. Probably worth remembering when we last played there stadium was never full. But yes clearly congestion issues, especially if they make it any bigger.

Yep, stadium could be better, suspect the contours have something to do with the ends being what they are. I’d hate that train journey from town centre and back each game. No doubt beats ground sharing with Gillingham though. It brings into sharp focus how lucky we are with a short walk from station and town centre. Blessed are the Town fans.

It was absolutely fine, a proper good away day, a much better matchday experience overall compared to the Circus and Manchester City.

But then, we did get into Brighton at 10:18, and get the 13:26 train to Falmer, and then hung about afterwards and got the train from Falmer at 18:15

I find one of the key things for away days, and to make them more enjoyable, give yourself more time!!!

I was talking to some Brighton fans in the train queue afterwards and even they said the logistics are a joke. And you’re right about Lewes, far too small to cope despite being mentioned on BHA website as a parking option I believe. Got to my car for about 5,50 and left the town around 6.30; home just after midnight.

Do they still put on a local beer for away teams? Always thought that's a nice touch, even as a non-drinker

Seems marginally better than my previous couple of visits.

Jogged to station right after final whistle and waited for 15 mins but got to Brighton to catch the 1728 train and was home in SE London before 7.

The last time I went we just spent the whole time around London Bridge having the beers, then caught the train there.Coming back we hung around a bit at the stadium and waited for the crowds to go down a bit.
I seemed to remember their pies were top notch.

A chap I spoke to pointed out that part of the problem was that some people on the platform heading for Eastbourne didn't get on trains going only as far as Lewes, even though they could pick up the later train there, or even one heading to Eastbourne from London.

Free motorbike parking - about 100 yards outside the away end - and then 2 mins to an empty A27 and the route home. What's not to like.

Even made the last 15 mins of the Villa Burnley match :-)

But yeah - appreciate that's not an option for all. Chatting to a Brighton two wheeler he said that they don't even put on additional trains on a matchday which seems ridiculous.

Suspect if I was a local I'd stay in the club bars for an hour.

I think they only did that for the first season at the stadium. They didn’t yesterday - only £7 pints of corporate lager from what I could see.

Wise call as the M25 was a bit of a mare as was the last 5 miles from bottom of the A23.

Coming home was a breeze in comparison.

Got picked up from the campus after the game by Miss Slave who had been visiting the mother of an ex in a care home nearby. We had an encounter with a pushy woman driving a Tesla so we both got to shout "Tesla w@nker" at her and got the finger back....so that was fun!!

We ended up going through about 6/7 villages and tiny narrow country roads. No idea why really but it worked, and saw some beautiful houses!

A21...A267??
Was the way we came in and then train in from Polegate. Left Saxmundham at 9:30 and at the ground by 1:30.

We took the back road from Lewes to Haywards Heath and stopped for some chips in HH…. As Texters said, there’s some bloomin’ nice houses in that part of the world.

Bit different to the slums that surround St Andrews.

We got an Uber from Brighton before the game that just dropped us right outside the away end at 14:35, and waited in the ground after for an hour having a couple of beers and by then the train was a short queue/wait.

A nice sunny day and good result meant that wasn’t too bad an option, wouldn’t have been fun if we’d have lost late on or whatever. Thousands of Brighton fans seemed to have the same idea standing outside so it must be a common thing for them too.
