Was it ever confirmed that it wasnt just the sponsors (allegedly) moaning about not being prominent enough on the cover (even though they were) but it was the players too who were upset they weren’t being featured on the programme cover? Kinda almost can see the players point, if true, but this one and the Man Utd cover were both phenomenal work.

Think that was just mentioned on here, find that weird if true to be honest, it’s not like they’re not plastered everywhere else, football cards and stickers etc.

Absolutely agree. The sheer talent, attention to detail and cleverness of each of these pieces of art leave me incredulous. Incredulous that sponsorships and player photos seem more important than creating something truly iconic, a keepsake that fans of both clubs would appreciate.

I think MA ended up trying a few different excuses: The sponsors didn't like it. The players didn't like it. Some fans complained. None of them seem to make much sense, in particular the sponsor one. I bet sponsors would have loved the additional programme sales and exposure that the designs brought.

Call me Ted with another cracker on 21:58 - Jan 10 with 8839 views | ArnieM | I think the club are missing a commercial trick here tbh. If it's not possible on the programme why not have an additional "match day poster" for sale? I'm sure they'd sell very well and it's something different [Post edited 10 Jan 22:02]

I'm truly mind-boggled, as an artist myself, why the club don't seize upon the obvious enthusiasm of a heightened fan base to sell these programmes. Do they not understand how much these programmes could be worth, years down the line, because the have an insanely talented bunch of artists on board? And by saying what they are worth, yes - I have an FA Cup 78 programme signed by Sir Bobby and every Ipswich player on the pitch that day. I've had it valued. It has a very modest valuation. But the value to ME is priceless. By saying 'what they are worth", I am implying"what they are worth" in the fans eyes. And the fans are the Club, after all. I think the sad fact is, true talent and brilliance is never fully appreciated in its time. See Vincent Van Gogh, as just one example. Edit: Just bought the latest artwork - are there any plans to add additional prints of the Man Utd "Lowry-esque" art? I'd love a copy of that too. [Post edited 10 Jan 22:40]

Seconded. It was a great idea which was pulled from the front of the programme far too quickly. A rare mis-step from the club and I'm gutted something dull and generic will be on display for Brighton (and every home match moving forward).

Call me Ted with another cracker on 08:10 - Jan 11 with 2174 views | TractorWood | So good. I'm still absolutely irate that the club prefer a snotty picture of a squad player than this. Could the artist sell prints and frame them? I'd love to buy a couple. The Lowry pastiche was astonishing.

Indeed. I was going to buy every programme if they were going to be the covers; now I'm not bothering. They tend to sell out anyway but I reckon they could've upped the print run by 1000 and they'd still have sold out, with those as the covers. Just such a bizarre decision.

It wouldn't quite hit in the same way as a programme, but would be a good alternative.

Exactly. The Liverpool one was the first programme I'd bought in 20 years, and I had intended to collect the others.
