The world feels in an inevitable spiral atm and there seems to be nobody with a platform prepared to speak out in fear of the backlash and damaging their own brand. I can see now why past atrocities occurred with people just willing to ignore what doesn't immediately affect them or just outright deny what's really happening. It seems human nature to turn a blind eye then preach in hindsight.

I think you'd be surprised. General media & social media seems to push more and more negativity by the day. Negativity turns into discussion and/or views, which turn into money for social media platforms and news channels.
At a 'local' level, ask your neighbour for some sugar, ask someone on the street for directions, go have a chat with the barista in the coffee shop, tell someone a joke. I still believe that 98% of people in the world have good hearts and are kind.
It's just that 2% that a) you hear more about and b) fck the world up.

Just called my neighbour 'sugar' and got a slap across the face.

Yeah, about right. The issue is that this cohort has been tricked into accepting the status quo. That's not a good thing.
Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...
There are good people everywhere doing all sorts of selfless things. In terms of global leaders though, I'm struggling to think of any who are inspiring hope right now. That's probably down to my ignorance as much as anything; there's bound to be some somewhere. You could maybe argue Zelensky, but that's a unique situation and not particularly hopeful!
Closer to home, a politician who immediately springs to mind is Jess Phillips for her relentless campaigning against violence against women and girls. It's a stain on our nation. Some official estimates suggest about 2 million women and girls are attacked each year, making it far more prevalent than the racial hate crimes that attract more attention. Jess has been steadfast in her support on the backbenches and is now starting to introduce laws that will help protect women and girls. That's good imo.

I don't think people are tricked into accepting the status quo. They are either ignorant or just not interested. The majority of people won't speak up until the frog is already cooking. The flip side is that the majority of people will go along with whatever you think is positive.

We need accurately informed education and then a series of popular revolutions to overthrow the future-consuming monster of global capitalism (nothing intended in that phrase other than its basic meaning), and all of its spin-off cults.

Have several American friends who intend to keep their head down for the next few years until the country regains it’s sanity.
Just observing, it seems like sanity is found somewhere between the way America was governed the past four years and the way it appears it will be governed in the next four years.

Have friends on both sides of the US political divide, it isn’t a barrier to friendship. It is the system that is at fault.

What I struggle with is how does 'speaking up' manifest itself? Democracy is too slow and too broken. Waving flags and shouting in the streets clearly has no effect. The decent majority are silent because they feel helpless on a range of issues IMHO and that's very sad but also neutering.
It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.
Politics is not for nice people. Charming people yes, not nice people. One of the reasons people like Populism is the leaders front up more thoughts, some of which are views meant to be kept quiet.
There are less decent people in politics, but I believe theres people with enough good meaning and intent to balance out the worst. Indeed, in Trumps first office there were staff who saw it as their duty to 'contain' the worst ideas and policies of Trump, so the decent people aren't always the leaders, but those behind them.
one small way of resisting that spiral is to assume that people you disagree with politically are still fundamentally decent and that their views are honest and reasoned. it also makes the world a less scary place.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

But the people that you disagree with politically are fundamentally decent and their views are honest and reasoned, it's you right wingers who are the problem.
