If that 3rd striker's job is just to make a nuisance of himself then I'm pretty good at that.

Its a bit more involved than that. you sit on a bench for 80 minutes watching a footie match and then come on late run around basically being a nuisance and very occasionally score to become a hero

There's a huge amount of potential there to grow our US fan base. It's tough for them to get tickets now but the time I first emailed was when we weren't selling out. I figured get them experiencing a match and they'll probably spend a ton on merchandise.

Maybe that's because asking for his email address is nothing like asking where he is publicity-wise?

I agree, there is a lot of American history within Suffolk. Lots of local people with memories and stories, who could certainly paint a dewy eyed picture of the past to our friends across the water, about their fathers, grandfathers influence on our county.

I think this post should be edited so that his email address is less visible to bots crawling the web, or we might sign him up to all sorts of spam.

My mother would use nothing else but that blue Basildon Bond. She had a nice pad sized leather cover for it too. That and a Parker Pen. At school we had to use fountain pens - no biros allowed! At first it was those ones with a bottle of Quink ink. Then cartridges became permissible so far less chance of dropping a bottle of it or making too much mess. Sadly none of it improved my truly terrible handwriting. All hail the computer! I’m depressingly decrepit. [Post edited 6 Feb 17:56]

Well that’s bought the memories flooding back. As a lad from working class roots, the day I somehow passed the scholarship exam for a private school was the day my life changed. Waterman and Parker fountain pens, filled with a little rubber tube that sucked the Quink Blue/Black or Royal Blue Washable into the chamber. As you say, plastic ink cartridges were eventually and somewhat reluctantly accepted, by the time I was in Upper Fourth. Any work presented in biro was a caning offence, as was failure to have sufficient ink to refill the pen during a lesson. The kid who sat by me was caned during the first week of term because he was left handed and couldn’t help smudging his work as he wrote. The form nutter had a contraband Bic biro with the refill removed. During break time and lunch he’d painstakingly soak little wads of blotting paper in the ink with a pair of tweezers before packing them into the empty Bic barrel with surgical precision. He’d then spit fire them out with unerring accuracy at any areas of pristine white shirt that fellow classmates carelessly exposed. We spent the first three terms wearing our blazers in any weather to avoid having to explain the bullet hole of royal blue washable on our white shirts, to either teachers or parents. Thankfully he was finally expelled following a vicious lunch time brawl that resulted in another kid having to have stitches, because his tooth brace had sliced clean through his top lip following a vicious haymaker from ink boy. Happy memories of a time that, in hindsight, would have kept Esther Rantzen’s Childline busy for years.
