Delighted for Harry Clarke 08:40 - Feb 13 with 4226 views | Bellevue_Blue | Seemingly walked into the first XI of the second best team in the division and put together three really good performances. Hopefully it's another hugely positive step in his development and whatever happens, he can have a really strong impact with us next season regardless of division.

I don't see that as a criticism of him at all. More an indicator of the step up in level. There are more experienced players than him that have found it just as difficult! I hope he keeps smashing it and we know if we do go down, we have a perfectly good option for that right hand side.
Delighted for Harry Clarke on 09:10 - Feb 13 with 3881 views | TRUE_BLUE123 | I watched him vs Pompey and he had a really tough night. But to credit Josh Murphy who played out of his skin. He was much better last night though. I'm not sure that he is one I would be looking to keep for next year. I felt he was a bit of a weak spot for us in the championship last season and our right hand side looked so much more solid when Axel came in. I like him as a lad though so hope he can get a promotion with the Blades this year.

Delighted for Harry Clarke on 09:15 - Feb 13 with 3836 views | TrumptonBlue | Not sure Saturday's was a really good performance, as he seemed to struggle against Josh Murphy. Portsmouth's goal came from a cross Murphy put in after beating him. This from the Sheffield Star, who gave him 4/10: "The Ipswich loanee had a real tough time in the first half up against the lively Murphy and often couldn’t get anywhere near him as he caused real havoc from the left, either cutting to the byline and firing dangerous crosses or going on the outside and hitting the bar with a curling effort." Edit: As TrueBlue just said! [Post edited 13 Feb 9:16]

People say he hasn't stepped up, but he was better for us this season than Ben Johnson has been, who has spent years at that level.

Both not good enough for the Premier league imho.
Delighted for Harry Clarke on 09:42 - Feb 13 with 3539 views | Churchman | I’m pleased to see him doing well there. Watched a little of last night and thought he was decent. Harry is not the most talented player Ive ever seen, but I love his attitude. He’s a real heartbeat of a team and you know that he will have left it all out there even if he has a poor game. He’s only 23 and there’s more to come from him. He’s not the spud my seat-neighbour at PR thinks and shouldn’t be subject to the abuse said person dishes up. Is Harry ever going to be a PL player? If I’m honest I have my doubts and if I was a gambler I’d say fitness permitting top Championship, lower Premier League is about where he’s going to be. I like him. Great character. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Had to do it all by himself though, there was nobody tracking back that side to help out like Town do. That said, even one on one, a full back should still be preventing a lot more balls from going in the box than he does. Murphy just got crosses in at will. Still got time on his side to do a lot more improving.

I think Clarke has some really amazing physical capabilities. He is a super athlete, powerful runner, good in the air. But he has just always been found wanting when it comes to defending. Teams would really get after him last year when he was playing and he seemed to get caught a lot. Maybe he would be better as an out and out wing back [Post edited 13 Feb 10:49]

He was coming back from inury though wasn't he? Also only 23 so still young enough to be learning and developing.

I can't confess to watching the whole game (just the highlights) but he seemingly scored pretty well from a statistical point of view in that game. Futmob scored him 7.6/10 (3rd highest), Flashscore 7.2/10 (4th highest), Sofascore 7.4/10 (3rd highest) so clearly he impacted the game positively despite Murphy having got a few decent crosses in when he shouldn't have.

It did seem that he and Woolfenden would have one moment every game where they'd get into a brief argument over positioning during an attack down our right, and it would sometimes lead to a goal. The one that springs to mind is the first West Brom goal (Fellows?). But playing in that right back slot in our team you're always susceptible to attacks due to how we play. It's partly why Clarke (again) and Johnson have looked vulnerable this season at times. Tuanzebe is a level above both so you don't notice it as much when he's playing,

Not sure that's true. The only game where I have been impressed by Ben Johnson was Tottenham away, and even then he didn't play right back.

In the games i've been impressed by Johnson he was playing high and wide, imo he absolutely sucks as a fullback. His 1-1 defending appears to be terrible and I don't think he's ever stopped a cross from going into the box. I think there is a player there as a winger, and his assist for Sammy needs not to be forgotten either

Harry Clarke has played better in that position, and is recovering from a nasty injury. He's still got time to develop whereas we should be expecting Johnson to be there already. All arguments are pointless anyway, we all know Janoi should be playing there ;)

It was his positioning (marking wise) and tackle timing which let him down a little last year - not sure when he converted to playing FB (at Stoke?), but he's got a little learning to do in that position still, and he might just be at the right level to do that now, assuming he gets consistent game time at the top of the Championship for the rest of the season. As you say, athletically he's excellent.

Yes, he did seem to get caught out but you need to examine why. With Davis playing so high in the Championship, the whole defence shfted to the left to compensate. With Burns bombing on to,, if opposition coaches were brave enough to leave a man out wide down our right, Harry would be miles away from him, quite literally caught between two stools. He was oftentimes the sacrificial lamb to make the most of Leif"s attacking talents. If Harry bombed forward, the same cover that was afforded to Davis, was not forthcoming. Thus, he could again be exposed as 'out of position'. That's how I see it anyway. Good look to him at the Blades. [Post edited 13 Feb 16:12]
