Utterly strange to me that we seem to have moved away from 17:05 - Sep 1 with 1117 viewstractorboy1978

What/who was successful in 23/24. Heart of the side ripped out. And then Davis asked to play as an inverted full back when he got 18 assists last time, in order to accommodate two wingers that have shown nothing so far.

Enormous pressure on these players to perform now and on McKenna to be proven right on decisions made this summer.

Yep. It's all on KM now: he's taken what he inherited from Gamechanger/Cook, and done wonders. Yes, Chaplin and Woolfy were maybe not PL players, but we are in the Championship again, and their experience of 23-24 would be vital imo.
I'm feeling disenfranchised and demoralised after the highs of last week's additions.

Why are people talking like we played the entire promotion winning team all last season?

Chaplin and Wolfy leaving on deadline day doesn’t change our outlook for this season tbh outside of the emotional attachment to it being a tough one to take.

How many of that successful side proved themselves good enough for the Premier League?

We got into the Prem because McKenna was getting a song from players who had never performed at that level their whole careers.

Replace them with better players, or keep them around because of what they did and hope, just hope they can get to that level again, and then be better in the Prem next time round?

for us to go up this season.... by bsw72 1 Sep 17:09
In the league last season, Chaplin played in 22 games and Woolfenden 15.

Of the 22 that Chaplin played in we won 1 and he scored 1 and assisted with 1 in 854 mins out of a season total of at least 3,420.

Of the 15 that Woolfenden played in we won 1 in 1,187 mins out of a season total of at least 3,420.

Not sure that losing in effect 2 x squad players from the last 15 months is making the task any more challenging.

McK's obsession with J Clarke and Philogene is baffling.

I have no idea why he continues to stick with these 2 who are consistently underperforming week-in-week-out at the expense of other players.

We’ve been relegated and quite comfortably- it was a phenomenal achievement to get up, but we have to do something different and something more.

I’m a bit baffled by the negativity and assumptions we are set for failure. A long way to know either way, but there’s some real quality on the books now. McKenna has to deliver or he’s gone. That’s the way it is.

Feels like we're a development squad. Are the new investors driving this?
Either way, with the loss of most of our promotion heroes, there's guaranteed to be a toxic atmosphere at PR if we continue to make heavy work of the league.

Is there a school of thought that the existing ties to the promotions needed to on 17:19 - Sep 1 with 900 viewsJohn_Warks_Willy

be removed to allow for a refresh and brand new push?

I can see something in that, if you try hard enough 🧐

Here's where my head is (albeit with a large dose of hindsight).

We got promoted to PL.

Didn't sign anyone other than Hutchinson who was with us already.

Got stuffed every week still (but would have been more than understandable with largely L1 players).

Then came back to this season with all my favourite players knowing they can do a job but with Premier League experience under their belts.

I'm really really not fussed about top two, just want to see sexy football again and win more than we lose.

All feels like a team of individuals.

Although, i'm excited about Egeli and Akpom and Azon and Azor has been good and Cajuste I do like.

Eurgh....no idea what to think.

Can someone at town at least put a mural of our promotion boys up for us.

Thats a quarter of a premier league season. McKenna is well known to rotate his players. They got a chance.

Starts here and there, as evidenced by my stats. But were replaced as we all know.

Just wanted to give some context to your rather misleading stats.

Out of interest, how did their replacements, who played in more games, do in terms of keeping us up?

Don't think it's that strange really even if it's happened more quickly than most people might have thought. Chaplin's the only leaver (presumably anyway) that doesn't fit into a bracket of 'rejected what we offered and moved for better elsewhere' or 'wanted out and we didn't stand in their way'.

There's always pressure when you want to be at the top but the only way it will weigh anyone down is if our div fans continue to not give any new(er) players much of a chance because they'd rather take their sentiment-driven grumbles into the stadium.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

As I was saying on Sat, if our $hit form continues, you'll see the repeat of the scenes at the Valley or the Memorial Stadium during our L1 days in the foreseeable future.

Fking appallingly. But pretending that the promotion players weren't also responsible is totally false.

There is a large extent to which what worked then cannot be expected to work now – it's a very different context. But it's definitely one hell of a high wire act and let's hope the current bunch get themselves in the groove quickly.

I’ve not talked like that at all. It’s mental to me that all but Hirst, Davis, Burns and Harry Clarke are still here though from that whole promotion winning squad. And the latter two are only here because they are injured let’s be honest.

We also didn’t use Davis as an inverted full back last season. He has been our biggest attacking weapon for the last two seasons and the chances created numbers back that up.

I stand by my initial point. A huge amount of pressure is on for things to click fast if we want to get the top 2. Several players that came with big price tags but that have delivered little so far for me and have it all to prove in an ITFC shirt. The likes of Philogene, Clarke, Greaves need to start showing why we paid big money or we will look silly for not making the likes of Chaplin, Broadhead and Woolfy feel more valued. And even though I like our midfield 3 signings, we miss the intangibles Morsy brings already for me.

Chaplin- 22 appearances.

Sure. How many minutes exactly? Because mostly he came on late on. Not a fair stat.
