I'm in a small quiet pizza place in Reykjavik. English couple next to me. Can hear them talk but can't make out a word. Group on a table the other side of the restaurant. I have clearly heard every single thing spoken. The subject, college, business, leadership, shared values and friends who are successful and wealthy.
1 guess at the nationality....

American probably, but I’d have gone for pompous English City types if you hadn’t sort of ruled them out with your other example.
That’s the second time I’ve been jealous tonight. I’ve never been to Perth, but I spent a fair bit of time in Reykjavik (and Iceland in general) and love the place to bits. It’s been 8 years so another visit is long overdue. I’ve tried to persuade the Mrs we could decamp there over the whole dummer holidays, but she’s not having it yet.

These aren't obnoxious city types. Just normal folk. No awareness at all of the fact they simply talk at twice the volume they need to...
Any key Reykjavik tips beyond the obvious, very welcome...

Only the obvious really. If you get the chance to do the Thingvellir/Gullfoss tour it’s well worth it. The Blue Lagoon is novel and fine too if hot water’s your thing. I can spend a few hour there.
I don’t have any current recs for the City itself other than to just soak up the atmosphere as much as your wallet allows. The people in bars and coffee shops were all friendly and chatty enough whenever I was there.
Did they tip 20%, even though the little Irish waiter got their orders wrong and kept interrupting their conversation, to show them AI generated pictures of himself and Penny Smith?

When I was there a few years ago Iwith some mates we met a bunch of locals in a bar who told us not to bother with the blue lagoon but instead to go to the beach where there is a natural hot water pool. The locals jump in the sea and then into the hot pool.
The next day we went there and faced the fear. After the initial terror of the freezing sea we had a wonderful experience doing what the locals do. There are even changing room facilities there.
Certainly worth going and having a look at least.
