Mehmeti 22:10 - Aug 3 with 8964 viewsnodge_blue

The same guy who posted on YouTube that Birmingham are in for Taylor, is now saying Birmingham have bid for mehmeti.

Poll: best attacking central midfielder?

Did we pay 3m? If we can triple our money in 6 months I think that’s a great deal for all parties. Think he would smash it for Birmingham, given he’s probably third choice LW / 10 for us, if we get good money it makes sense to sell.

I wouldn't be surprised, if we're moving McAteer on I would expect we'd move Mehmeti on. I wouldn't even be surprised if Nunez and Akpom were also found new homes.

All depends on who the replacements are for these players but I'd like to see Mehmeti given a chance generally, probably not as a regular starter.

He's technically very good, works and presses hard, doesn't mind a scrap and he can score goals out of nothing. I think he'd be a good one to keep around.

The thing about moving all these players on, is that their roles will need to be filled by new signings. All of which takes effort to attract and hire the right men for the job, the team and the club. Plus spending money which (if you're talking about four or five extra, many just as squad cover) reduces what's available for the really top targets (ST, CM).

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Personally, I don't feel Mehmeti is PL quality. He started very well, but faded badly I also feel the same about Nunez TBH. I'd keep one of them, but try and upgrade with a replacement. As Nunez is somewhat of a cult hero I'd keep him and he seems a bit more versatile.

Perhaps a controversial take but I thought he got worse with the more coaching he got here. When he came here he played with a freedom then become too structured and predictable.

He was very up and down for me but clearly very effective in the 10. I’d be taking him if I was a championship club - top player at that level.

Was a brilliant signing for us, we’ll probably double/triple our money.

I think if we get Enciso in we’ll need to offload some forwards.

I thinks tMehmeti might surprise us but not if he doesn’t get any game time. I’d rather see Ogbene and McAteer move on first but that don’t all play in the position.

Also can’t help but think if we get relegated again we’ll have to do even more rebuilding as I guess some of the players we’ve brought in won’t want to stay and the players we’re looking to sell might be the ones we want again.

But guess we have to give it our best shot this season and see what happens.

I'd keep him/ think he will stay for a couple of reasons.

Of the left-sided players, he's the only one who inverts and plays centrally very naturally. Something that we don't currently have.

If GON wants to play 3-4-2-1 then we could do that very easily.

He's started in the 10 for the first XI in every pre-season friendly so far.

If we did get relegated then we have someone who would be one of the best players in the league and wouldn't kick up a fuss, that is important.

Yep. Unfortunately we've got to clear the decks squad/salary-wise before we can complete deals like Enciso. Mehmeti doesn't have the physicality or the football IQ to play in the PL. A buzzy player but all too often ends up down blind alleys and minimal end product.

Mehmeti, H. Clarke, Ogbene, McAteer, Jaden and maybe even J. Clarke all likely to go in the next couple of weeks.

They're also all players who will suddenly become very useful again should we fail to stay up. I know we're aiming higher than that of course, but feel that signing a new first 11 is one thing, signing an entire new squad is something else.

Could be right. Just felt his signing seemed inspirational... .and then he faded. Seemed to hold on the ball too long, went down too many blind alleys and maybe trying too hard.

Maybe he needs a clean slate. But both Nunez and Mehmeti ( and maybe Akpom) as 10 options? We need to strengthen there and probably offload.

Look at some of the fees being paid this window though. Southampton paid £9m for Lewis Dobbin. Norwich paid similar for Andre Brooks. Mehmeti has done more at Champ level than either of those! It's a really good summer to be selling to the Championship.

Solid championship player at sort of play off level but way off it for Premier League. I don't rate him at all, maybe he was over coached though and just needs a free role in a team where he would be best player, like Bristol City.

I think £9m might be steep for Mehmeti, but I can certainly see £6m-£7m, which would still be a smart return. Covering the cost of a £25m Enciso for next season...

He's never played in the Premier League!!!!

I've been banging this drum all summer but I cannot for the life of me see Mehmeti leaving. He joined us in January to get us promoted and will be determined to play in the Prem for the first time. Might be a January departure but highly doubt it before then.

Think we have to remove any sentiment about anyone at this point – we're going for it this summer, we really need to stay up this time and the dealings will reflect that.

I'd imagine the same sort of deal as we got for Broadhead - £7.5m potentially rising higher.

I relate, here where our problem is now lying,
Were on paper signing better quality but these players people are saying offload would serve us well and probably get us back up if we're relegated,
The ones we're signing will more than likely jump ship leaving us in right mess completely new build again, and we know how that goes,on the flip if we stay up then there good decisions,
Were certainly between a rock and a hard place,

I agree that if we get very good money then it starts to make sense..

However, how many players would be happy to join a newly promoted side to be a 3rd choice winger and would they be any better than Mehmetti?

We’d possibly struggle and end up with a player of similar ability for similar money and I’d rather try and keep some continuity and not sell everybody.

It’s a fine line as naturally some will have to go to make space in the squad but I worry we’re going to have 20 new faces in the building and have the age old ‘time to gel’ conversations

That's not really the sell to a player though is it? You are coming in to compete for a place and to be part of a squad at a PL side on PL money. There isn't a hierarchy. You want to constantly be improving every area of the squad.
