If we don’t sign a striker 14:54 - Sep 1 with 2997 viewsCustardCream

And Emersonn’s injury keeps him out. What do you think we do? Persevere with Akpom or give Egeli/Enciso a go up top.

Don’t we just all start flouncing?

God knows, but it's ridiculous that we get into this position with number 9s EVERY. FOOKIN. WINDOW.

I'm not a flouncer and even I will probably Harumph a bit.

It'll probably get done, he wouldn't be down here otherwise. And the Burnley noise is probably trying to get a few more £££ out of the deal - we'll probably add a few million on if we are desperate and they know that.

What, this week?

Both! (Or all 3 if you like).

If GoN can improve Akpom further through coaching; and if the player can get his confidence back (which would mean fans getting off his back and SUPPORTING him), I think we could be very pleasantly surprised.

What, this week?

If it's Akpom and Walle Egeli (if Emersonn's out for a period) you can probably relegate us this week, yes. No matter how good your engine room is, you need proven goalscorers.

Even Emersonn and Akpom is frankly hugely underwhelming yet again for a PL season.

What, this week?

....it'll be like being 3 points adrift with one game to go and needing to win 9-0 against Arsenal, while the team above you has to lose 10-0, to Hull (who are already safe and putting out their girl's under 15 team).

Why would we put either of them in as a striker when we have Maeda?

Unfortunately we'll probably face the drop if that's the case.
Akpom isn't a PL quality striker, and others we have aren't specialized in that area.

I'm 99% sure we get Flemming done, but one must question how we continue to find ourselves in this position with needing a striker. (saying all clubs need a striker isn't a concern of mine, that's for them to worry about)

What's hyperbolic around that?

Akpom was a joke figure among fans last season. As things stand, there's still a chance he could be 2nd fiddle for us IN THE PREM!

Yeah, pretty much.

Ashton will go quiet for a bit at least if we don't manage the Flemming deal today.

Genuinely, and i hate being negative, but i feel that I am being here.. I think we would be in grave trouble. I wouldn't have been happy with no new striker before Emersonn's injury but now it's even more essential. No offence to Akpom but he just isn't good enough, if there wasn't an obligation to buy in his contract last season, he wouldn't even be here right now. We would no way have chosen to keep him.

O'Shea up top.

He is the new Naylor.

“… you can probably relegate us this week, yes.”

Apart from anything else, the fact that we have a history of scoring from throughout our sqads (including defenders and midfielders) seems to have entirely vanished from your brain.

If we end up in this position I think I'd prefer to see a change of formation.

Scherpen
O'Shea - Diop - Greaves
Ouattara - Lukic - Palacios - Davis
Fatawu - Enciso - Maeda

Akpom is 30. He has never done it at this level. He couldn't even do it at the level below last year. Not sure how a bit of confidence could change that. If he gets significant minutes this season, we will struggle.

Lots of pace, but zero aerial presence. Worrying in a league that's increasingly dominated by set plays.

I also think GON would change formation if we were in that situation. Flexibility is one of his strengths, so at least there’s that in the locker.

So sorry, fat fingers - didn't mean to down vote. Especially when you're agreeing with me
