Chambers Talks Ongoing
Chambers Talks Ongoing
Tuesday, 3rd Jul 2012 19:01

TWTD understands that talks are still ongoing with former Nottingham Forest skipper Luke Chambers, who has been at Portman Road all day to discuss a Bosman free move to the Blues. The 26-year-old underwent his medical earlier today and has been given a tour of the ground and the club’s training facilities.

The deal won't be completed this evening with further developments more likely on Wednesday.

Free agent Chambers, whose Forest contract expired at midnight on Saturday, is amongst manager Paul Jewell’s top targets this summer as he looks to improve on last year’s 15th place finish.

The Blues boss, who will be back at Portman Road after the summer break tomorrow, will hope to get the deal done in time for the start of pre-season training on Thursday morning.

Town are also hoping to have completed the signing of free agent French-Guinean midfielder Cheick Kourouma by that time.

As reported by TWTD last month, the 19-year-old has agreed terms but the Blues still have some outstanding paperwork to tie up. Town need agreements in place with his former clubs Genoa CFC Primavera, Real Zaragoza and Sochaux as development compensation is due as he is below 23 years of age. International clearance is also needed.

Meanwhile, we understand claims that the Blues are targeting Colchester United keeper Ben Williams are wide of the mark. Out-of-contract Williams, 29, has said he’ll be leaving the Weston Homes Community Stadium this summer to move to the Championship, but Town are not amongst the interested parties.

Elsewhere, Hull City manager Steve Bruce says former Aston Villa keeper Brad Guzan, who the Blues were reported to have been eyeing in March, won't be joining the Tigers or any other Championship side: "We thought we were close to bringing Brad Guzan here but he's decided to stay in the Premier League."

The only thing that worries me with this is a few negative reports from Forest fans we've been hearing who are glad to see him leave, if he is that good why have Forest allowed him to run down his contract? wiffs a bit of what happened here with Leadboots.

Surely you dont go as far as a medical unless the signing is in the bag? When announced earlier this week it said he would sign in time for pre season on Thursday so actually that gives him a full 36 hours more to sign!

riley26 - you said it - 'when rival clubs sign players' - THAT'S THE DIFFERENCE - we don't / haven't - (sorry, forgot the one who's injured) - before some wag points it out.

why would he sign today without being able to sit down in front of the town manager? jewell is back tomorrow and chambers will want to talk to paul before signing.

H32...

The transfer window officially opened July 1st, Chambers has been a free agent for about 2 days and we've already given him tour and had his medical...

You win some you lose some, Pearce and Ward went elsewhere unfortunately but you can bet a lot of clubs wanted Elliot Hewitt but WE got him. Young ambitious and highly rated player... Have some patience.

Bluelady - apologise for what ? - but I will be most pleased if he does sign - and encouraged by the fact that we CAN actually sign an 'established' player who can play instantly at this level.
Genuinely hope he, and a couple of others, sign REAL soon - for everyone's sake.

I am sure you would be relieved too.

H32 I meant for putting so many pessimistic posts about one signing which still looks pretty likely to come off! you know i want the best for the club like you and will be signing a get Jewell out petitition if we are not showing promise by Christmas, but i would like to see who comes in and for the season to commence before i start to make too many strong comments either way!

Bluelady - totally understand your thinking on that - I, as you know, have never had any confidence in Jewell as Manager - however as I have stated MANY times before, I HOPE HE PROVES ME WRONG - even now.
But the problem is not just with Jewell - as has been chewed over many times before. Sad but True.

My patience is less than yours for sure - but all I ever want is the best for ITFC - and everyone of the Clubs Supporters - we all deserve better (that includes the very name of IPSWICH TOWN FC) - than what is currently being served up - and has been ongoing for some time now.
