Bennett Set for Forest After German Trial
Bennett Set for Forest After German Trial
Sunday, 5th Aug 2012 22:18

TWTD understands that former Blues academy full-back Callum Bennett has been offered a contract by Nottingham Forest. We understand that the right-back previously spent time on trial with Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer.

Bennett, last season’s U18s captain, turned down a one-year deal with Town when his scholarship was up at the end of the 2011/12 campaign.

Previously we revealed that the former Kesgrave High School pupil, who also operates in midfield and at centre-half, had been offered terms by Sheffield Wednesday, where his former Blues academy team-mate Caolan Lavery now plays, while Aston Villa had also shown interest.

Meanwhile, Town could be amongst what's likely to be a number of Championship clubs interested in striker Dave Kitson now that he has settled his contract with Portsmouth.

Kitson, 32, is understood to be viewed as an alternative to Steve Davies with the Blues and Derby having been unable to agree a fee for the ex-Tranmere man.

At 6ft 3in tall, the former Cambridge, Reading, Stoke and Middlesbrough (loan) man would appear to very much be in the mould of the type of big striker Paul Jewell wants to add to his squad.

Kitson is a good player but scoring is erratic at best, 50/50 on this but would deffo prefer Davies

I would rather have Heskey than Kitson and that's saying something, I know we need a big striker but Jason Scotland is probably better than Kitson. Rob Hulse could be an option maybe, but I would ideally like to see a player less than about 28 come in.

A HUGE if, but if the German champions pick Bennett up, with their countries brilliant record for youth development then serious questions have to be asked of the club for not tieing him down.

Before people talk about us offering him a deal, it was clearly a pittance if an Ipswich boy (and I think it was Kesgrave not Cops Phil) turned it down

And once again one of our youngsters who we've cast aside goes on to better things. Well done Mr Clegg, you are destroying our club.

I'd go for someone like Darius Henderson. Good goalscoring record and at 30 got a few good years left in those ol legs!

I sincerely hope we do not sign Kitson - right build yes but he is too slow and way past his best which was a long time ago. I still think we may get Davies as Derby will have to sell soon otherwise his value will quickly diminish.

Blue Badger - of the youths discarded as you put it, how many have really one on to better things?

Rhodes was clearly a mistake to let go, but i'd say no-one else who we have let go - others have turned us down e,g. Trotter have gone on to be a bigger success elsewhere

No thanks to Kitson.

Don't want to keep repeating myself but I do not understand why we haven't got Murphy yet.

Jewell says Murphy too expensive so with our apparent trend of under £10k wages and small fees I guess celtic want a fee and Murphy has too high demands... hes on about £15k at celtic so not will to drop £5k plus I guess.

Callum could off been a great asett to this club. A home grown talent and an under 18 's captain and a central defender or right back which is what we are desperate for?
One year contract thereafter......
Ipwich academy ....lol.!
All the best Callum..go to a club thats supports youth.

I think, in Jewell's defence, we've moved away from chasing washed up, past it 'journey men'. I would be surprised if there was any truth in this, he's bound to want a decent salary and I think there are better options for that money. Would much rather Daryl Murphy.

Like the Darius Henderson shout, I know to many loans isn't the best way to go but Harry Kane would also be handy

I'll probably get slated for this, but I noticed today that Chris Iwelumo has been made available by Watford... he has always been a decent player at this level and could have gone onto bigger things if he'd had a bit more luck (aside from that glaring error for Scotland, admittedly). Davies would be my first choice but I'd much rather go with Iwelumo than Kitson.

Kitson - Please god no.

BlueBadger - so Clegg made the decision to release him did he ?? It wasnt down to the manager/coaching staff then ??

I can't believe Murphy wouldn't take a drop in pay to £12k-ish, its well known he's keen to play for us (proved on the pitch also) and didn't he say he enjoyed living down here last time?

If he wanted £12k, I'd be disappointed if we didn't give it to him.

My error, was thinking of Joe Whight. Disappointed in myself as ex-KHS boy! Story amended after receiving further info re Forest.

It wasn't down to the club releasing him he turned down a contract offer with us! What is so hard to understand about that? You want to blame some blame the bl00dy agents who tell these kids they are worth way more money before they have ever proved themselves. It is the agents who have ruined the game.

I agree Dundeetractor boy, Iwellumo would be a good alternative to Davies and would vary our striking options a lot.
