Chopra Still Planning to Stay at Town Monday, 3rd Jun 2013 09:27 Striker Michael Chopra has again said he could decide to stay at Town for the remaining year of his contract, despite manager Mick McCarthy making him available for transfer at the end of the season.
Chopra, whose relationship with supporters has been less than harmonious in the wake of his well-documented off-field issues and Twitter controversies, tweeted: “Might stay at Ipswich as I know how much the Ipswich fans love me keep telling people I don't need to leave.”
The 29-year-old was told he could find another club along with Jay Emmanuel-Thomas at the end of the campaign having failed to secure a regular place in the side but quickly indicated that he might choose to remain at Portman Road: “Just coz I'm on the transfer list does not mean I have to leave. I have one year left on my contract, it’s down to the player if he wants to go or not.”
While Fulham are targeting Emmanuel-Thomas, so far there has been little speculation regarding clubs coming in for Chopra, although a number of sides — including now-promoted Hull City — showed interest in signing him on loan in January.
One report this weekend claimed Chopra could move on a free transfer, a not unlikely scenario as McCarthy looks to off-load his wage - the striker is understood to be one of the club's top earners - in order to add to his summer transfer budget.

He knows full well that nobody will match his current wages. Unlikely that we would get a transfer fee either, as it will take a brave (or stupid) manager to take on his well publicized issues.

what a piece of business Cardiff pulled on us... and look at them now - got rid of Chopra and got promoted... makes you wonder... PS haven't he already done enough harm to the club they can just fire him?

isnt he still in debt to the club.

Another own goal from Chopra. Surely the smart move would've been to get back to training a week before everyone else and knuckle down to give himself half a chance of getting decent terms with his next club.

Why are we wasting our breath and news space on this man? There are surely more important things to think about like next seasons best pie competition.

I've got it…he's trying to wind everyone up as much as possible before the season, then he'll end up getting 33 goals for us. Yes, that's it.

Make him train with the Under 10s. Fine him 2 weeks wages if he is 5 minutes late.

Tbh we are witnessing the last deserate rantings from a washed up, finished, has been, of a once decent footballer. He may well stay for the remainder of his contract "just to hurt us all" ( as he percieves it) - because that's all he has left to offer now. But personally now I couldn't give a stuff about. Let him play his futile mind games. In a few months time he'll be getting no more income from ITFC and will be put out with the rest of the rubbish from the canteen. He's damaged goods of the highest order and if could but see it his current reactions only further damge his future employment prospects. Let him twitter away to his hearts content. The thing that would anoy/ frustrate him most would be if Town fans were to totally blank him. His ego would be crushed. Bye bye chopra. What a sad end to yoiur career mate and its totally down to you!

Michael Chopra the Club is paying the price for no real research on this clown when they purchased him. He has the right not to leave! why it's called a contract he has with the Town

joe9087 You're right, he's as thick as s#:t but I think i know how he meant it. If he stays I think he's ending his own career prematurely. Hope he enjoys training with te under 17's, he might learn a few life skills.

The Town are paying the price of no real research on this clown, he has the right to stay it's called having a contract let him sit in the Reserve team and rot.Not many clubs would want him.

Michael 'Poison' Chopra Would be a lot more encourage if he said something along the lines of 'going to work hard, get my head down and try to force my way into the team to repay the clubs faith in me'. Rather than his current 'threats' to stay and see out his contract. Give him enough rope and we will be able to sack him for breach of contract somewhere along the line.

Was chuffed when we signed him..sadly he's proved most of us right by resorting to type. Will be remembered for his off-field "problems" rather than his on-field "talent"...the ultimate "thicko" footballer.

Would be brilliant if a decent club came in for him on a 2/3 year deal and then Evans turned round and said, "nah, actually I think we'll keep you, its down to me if you go or not . . . . . "

I can honestly say I've never turned on a player but Chops has finally done it! MM should bin him. There has to be a clause in that contract somewhere he's broken in his time here so we can offload with no compensation. Is he seriously goading us on social media after all the club has done for him!? I thought he was banned from Twitter anyway? I think our lawyers need to go through that contract with a fine tooth comb. Disgusting human being and a disgrace to this club.

@Intercept12 - he could even refuse to go out on loan (a la Bullard at Hull) if he's really decided to be awkward. However, I think this latest outburst has to be seen in the context of the ongoing strife with those who are constantly baiting him on social media. Not sure he's too good at the cut-and-thrust of "banter" (and I use the fencing analogy advisedly, as sharp comments can cause real emotional wounds) or that his skin is thick enough to engage in that with a bunch of anonymous trolls. This may be the Twitterary equivalent of using a hammer when a rapier would have been more suitable. If he is here next season (is willing to participate and is in reasonable form) then we should be making use of him. Paying his wages to train with the youths is, in reality, pointless and futile. If he can score a handful of goals, maybe win a match or two (same as he did in the season just gone), then it will not be a total write-off.

the bloke is toxic and not a good influence! Personally I'd take the hit and pay him off and just tell him to do one....I'm sure he'll find another club lower down the leagues to (not) score goals for...
