Leicester Latest Club Linked With Cresswell
Tuesday, 13th May 2014 16:07

Newly-promoted Leicester City are the latest Premier League side reported to be eyeing Town left-back Aaron Cresswell.

According to the Daily Telegraph the Foxes are amongst those chasing the 24-year-old, while long-term admirers Aston Villa and Burnley are also said to be interested.

Over the weekend, West Ham were reported to be ready to make a bid for the Liverpudlian, while Southampton, Newcastle and West Brom have been regular visitors to Portman Road during the second half of the season.

Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Cardiff, Hull City and Everton have also all been linked at one time or another.

Manager Mick McCarthy, who rates Cresswell as the best left-back in the division, says he won’t stand in the player’s way if the right offer comes in during the close season.

If Cresswell, who is contracted to Town until the summer of 2017, were to move on his former club Tranmere Rovers would be entitled to 20 per cent of the profit the Blues would make on the £420,000 they paid for him after his switch to Portman Road in the summer of 2011.

A Football League tribunal set a compensation figure of an initial £240,000 plus milestone clauses, with only a £100,000 payment on promotion to the Premier League not triggered.

With Town adhering strictly to the Financial Fair Play rules, McCarthy is unlikely to have much of a transfer war chest at his disposal this summer unless a current player is sold for a significant fee.

Got to be at least £3 million.

I'd rather he went to a more established side. £3m is the bare minimum we should accept IMO.

He'd get a massive pay rise at Leicester, plus he's very likely to play week in week out. If they pay the price, then it's not actually likely to be a bad move for him.

Well, we all know they have £180million to spend over the next few years now. Must be able to negotiate the price up a bit. Especially now we are Cleggless!

Could be perfect if sold with a sell on clause...
2 years @ leister playing reg then sold to real madrid for £50m... 20% sell on clause lol

I'd like 4 million or above, due to the 20% which Tranmere receive

agree with deano85 - really worth a sell on clause. Would love to see £3 million as a minimum too

I've heard some Leicester fans panning Konchesky this season - possibly one of those people who thinks he's better than he actually is. Wouldn't surprise me if they're looking for someone to replace him. I gather he already had to take a big pay cut just to get another year on his contract.

If we sold him for £4 mil we would only keep 3.3 so got to be at least 4.

£4m and he's yours. I fear we'll accept literally any offer of £2m+ though.

Oh wouldn't it be so funny if Mr Nugents agent told him he was part of a swap deal ? I'd love to see the look on his face !

If we are to press on to the next level we need to add quality to this hard working squad. Quality doesn't come cheap. If we sell a cresswell, all money made from the deal needs to be invested in the squad. If this is not te intention, then don't sell.

Good! Keep them coming. Id like to see a massive bidding war drive the price up. If a % of this is the only cash MM and TC will get to spend this summer the more interest we get early and the earlier in the summer we can get a deal done the better!

Given Cresswell is going to go the fact so many teams seem interested can only be good for us. Should drive the price up nicely!

Lets hope Evans allows MM to spend some of it!

If you're buying Cressy rather than selling him then your valuation more likely to be £2.5 million rather than £4 million and a sell on clause for a 24 year old seems unlikely. ME puts in £6-£7 million to balance the books so can't see Mick having much cash to play with. My prediction would be that Mick brings in freebies and loans again with ME looking at Town owing him £100 million in the next 2/3 seasons.

There will come a point when it is easier to list the Premier clubs Cresswell is not linked to.

They'll be a lot of released or transfer listed left backs from the prem this summer. With Leicester's money I reckon they'll go for an experienced older pro. I think Southampton would be a good move for Cresswell assuming Shaw moves to United. They play good football and seem to be the best team in the prem at the moment bringing through and playing young talent.

I personally would rather keep cresswell, but it now looks increasingly likely that he will move on this summer to the premiership and good luck to him. We as the selling club are in the driving seat and are under no pressure to sell or accept a lower offer. The fact there are multiple clubs interested can only play into our hands with regards to his price, get a bidding war going and then if they really want him they'll have to pay for him. Up to the club to get the right price and then I hope to god evans gives MM a large wedge of the cash to spend on improving the team. If he pockets the money and doesn't back MM I think there will be uproar

It has been several seasons now where there has been this level of speculation regarding Cresswell's imminent departure. He has been watched by clubs like Villa for years, if reports are to be believed. Can anyone explain why, at 24, he is still here? I really don't understand why someone has not come in for him before now...

Straight swap for Williams then let Tranmere argue over the valuation

Would rather he went to a more solid, established side, even if he played a bit less. Leicester could come straight back down.
